Second, there exist rubber buttpads and many muzzle brake options for the nugget that would help you tremendously, and wearing thick clothing and shooting from a rest also makes for a better shooting experience. I put a buttpad on my chink M44 (mostly for the extra length) and had 5'0" girls and complete n00bs having fun with it last week.

Are you shooting it offhand, kneeling, prone or off the bench?

Prone and off of a benchrest are gonna leave you feeling it. That's just how it is. However, make sure youre tucking the stock into the pocket of your chest and shoulder properly. Also consider that people typically don't burn through that much ammo per session shooting full power rifles from these positions. Build your confidence back up with your .22 and then start shooting your Mosin more frequently, but with less rounds fired per session so that you leave the range without pain.

Ignore /k/ on this matter. You will notice that everyone keeps listing bodyweight as if it's relevant. The repeated recoil of the rifle is beating up your tissue. This occurs to a 300lb person as easily as it does a 130lb person.

Hey OP, that sucks. But good advice has been dropped on you already. Stance, but more importantly, dry fire. Dime on barrel shouldn't move at trigger pull. Get comfy. Shoulder, swing, move around, make sure you're getting a good brace. (For god's sake make sure it's clear, clear it again, make sure it's clear and lock the ammo up separately and make sure you don't ND)
That being said, you're firing a large caliber rifle. I can shoot my ar10 all day and not feel it while I'm shooting, but i do notice the next day. 220# 6' bear of a man who routinely lifts 100# shit all day.

You may also want to go shooting with someone who is more experienced so they can catch you flinching and correct you.

The K31 without a recoil pad is a real pain to shoot. I'm not sure why. I can only go 40 or 50 rounds before it really starts to be painful. My shoulder would get physically wrenched backwards from the recoil in a very noticeable manner.

I still don't flinch though. I struggle with handgun though because shooting free hand I tend shoot low from getting impatient with the trigger weight and I end up jerking the trigger because my hands start to shake and I rush the shot.
