>>32247924
Guns are a relatively expensive hobby, considering how many people engage in shooting sports.

It's not frisbee golf, par example, where you could spend $500 and have everything you'd need forever.

Motorcycling is similar.

Bike, gear, licensing, maintenance and insurance
>>
>>32247980
>Bike, gear, licensing, maintenance and insurance
nigga i pay $117/year for insurance. Bikes are cheap as shit
>>
The difference is that motorcycles are authentically dangerous.

I don't have the reaction time or the balance for that shit.
>>
>>32248001
Factor in
>Buying a motorcycle
>Buying gear
>Getting licensed

And it's relatively expensive.

Golf's cheaper to get into, especially if you have a few cheap courses nearby.
>>
>>32247873

It's walking. Walking is the cheapest thing there is.

If you don't walk everywhere you're a nancy. I live in a rural area and walk everywhere I go.
>>
>>32248024
>>Buying a motorcycle
it cost me $1650
>>Buying gear
I wear a full face helmet that's it. Fuck space suits.

>>Getting licensed
That's like a one time payment of $60 or something.

Unless you're European that is.
>>
>>32248031
>Walking
>Hobby

Jesus I guess it would be considered a hobby if you live in bumfuck nowhere, cletus
>>
>>32248065

How is driving a hobby either? Or guns? And walking is a hobby to city folk and suburban cunts. Hiking is just walking anyway.
>>
>>32247873
Because motorcycling is best hobby of all. Also the same mathematics work for both. X+1 is the correct number of guns/bikes to own with X representing the number you currently have.
>>
>>32248048
It's still not a cheap hobby bro.

If you think $1650 is cheap, you delusional, not to mention paying for gas.

A cheap hobby would be some shit like drawing.
>>
>>32248384
$1650 is dirt cheap m8 i don't know what you're on about. Making things better is that its a literpeter so $/hp ratio is high.

desu it is a gas drinker but gas is cheaper than ammo.
>>
>>32247873
It's not a natural combine with guns... It's fun I had motorcycle as sole means of transport for years. But cannot carry a lot of funs on a bike. Vulnerable to everything.... at mercy to weather.

Go cheap SUV instead. Think cheap jeep....
>>
>>32248493
>$1650 is dirt cheap

Compared to other motor vehicles, yes.
Compared to other hobbies, no.
>>
Camping, duh.
>>
>>32249751
Camping/trekking is a more natural accompaniment. It's why /out/ is /k/'s child board.
>>
>>32248048
>Just buying a mototcycle
>Not customizing it in order to make it unique to you
Bike parts aren't cheap either. And most motorcycles aren't particularly cool in their factory configuration. I ride a Suzuki Boulevard, and there's a guy I work with who drives a nearly identical one, but his is almost completely stock and doesn't look or sound as cool as one that has had some money thrown into it.
>>
>>32248007
You don't need to balance on motorcycles. The gyroscopic effect of the tires moving will keep you upright.
>>
>>32249838
It still does require balance while riding to lean into the turns and things like that.
>>
>>32249838
He's not wrong about them being significantly more dangerous than responsibly used firearms, though. I don't trust all the other idiots on the road not to kill me.

Not really, no. It's much more involved.
Cars and guns can be engaging and being "into them" constitutes as what people normally would consider hobbies but few would consider walking as a hobby by itself. Sightseeing on foot or exercise maybe, I don't know.

I don't need to make it unique to me. It's rare to see my bike on American roads.

The fact that i got it for $1650 for such low miles was a deal and a half.

>And most motorcycles aren't particularly cool in their factory configuration.
DOHC V4 isn't cool, it's hot.

$1650 is only a lot of money to poorfaggots.

So you come on /k/ trying to feel exclusive with your expensive luxury dualsports? lmao
>>
>>32248007
Do you fall off bicycles? Then yeah maybe don't get on a motorcycle. But if you can ride a bicycle you can figure out a motorcycle
>>
>>32248024
Considering how much use you can potentially get out of a motorcycle and how in most places it can serve as a primary mode of transportation year round as well as a hobby, it's actually pretty fucking cheap.

A brand new street-legal dirtbike (or dualsport or whatever you want to call them) is like 6 grand. Used, under $1000. Provided you don't wrap it around a pedestrian or tree doing something stupid it should last you 10 years with minimal maintenance and upwards of 30 if you are willing to do serious work yourself.

A high-end motorcycle helmet is like $350 for a full-face with integrated bluetooth/mic. A cheap but still DOT-approved one is $70.

Licensing over and above your standard driver's license is free in my state and no more than $100 once in any other state.

Fuel is dirt-cheap, figure national average of $2.10 a gallon, burning 10-20 gallons a month for using it as a daily driver. A massive $252-$504 a year in fuel costs.

There is very little you can't do as far as maintenance on a motorcycle with a $30 set of Craftsman wrenches and $10 in screwdrivers/bitdrivers.

Insurance is the only extremely variable thing in the whole argument. I pay $89/yr for insurance on my KLR, but I'm old (mid-30's) and married with not even a single speeding or parking ticket on my record ever. And I don't ride it daily, it's a hobby bike not a daily driver, so I told the insurance company it gets less than 2000 miles a year (which is the truth). Meanwhile someone with a brand-new Harley with comprehensive coverage that puts 15,000 miles a year on it and has 3 at-fault accidents is going to pay several hundred a month.

Why are motorcyclefags so stupid?

What is it about driving around on two wheels that makes them think they're cool and superior? Literally nobody gives a fuck, or they actively hate them for being annoying cunts.

Thinking that having a bike makes you cool is like thinking that having a tumblr blog makes you an activist. It is an identical mindset.

Kek. You faggots always say this. There's a massive difference from being cautious vs being scared. I don't have anything to prove to anybody. I don't need to risk life and limb to go from 4 wheels to 2.

And the majority of fatalities I see are in 55mph or lower zones where high speed wasn't a factor. You ever seen what a deer/bike collision looks like at 45mph? I have, and I don't want to be on the receiving end of that.

Why is it anytime you bring up motorcycles are a ridiculous risk of mortal injury every bikefag acts like you're some sort of coward?

Because it's true. You've expressed your fear based on squid deaths. The unfortunate reality is that car drivers can get in gruesome accidents as well. As a matter of fact i saw the biggest GMC brand new dually bro truck graze a telephone pole, completely stomped the whole side of it and this little baby had a squirting hole in her head. If you want to be safe go live in a bunker or something lmao.

>And the majority of fatalities I see are in 55mph or lower zones where high speed wasn't a factor.
Because squids on crotch rockets don't speed.

>You ever seen what a deer/bike collision looks like at 45mph?

>>
>>32256019
Except that's not true.

Knives kill more people in the US and worldwide than guns do (including deaths due to war or other armed conflict). Knives account for over 20,000 times more nonfatal injuries requiring medical treatment than guns do.
>>
>>32256068
Some of the smaller crotch rockets and mopeds do.

Most of your cruisers (Harley, Honda Gold Wing, Indian, etc) get around 20-25, and your dualsport/dirtbikes get shit-all for gas mileage.

2-strokes get better mileage than 4-strokes but are a PITA due to needing to mix oil, plus they're dirtier and louder.
>>
>>32256036
>First off, I see just as many seasoned bikers bite it as I do noobs.
No you don't. You can't know this for fact.

>Second, are you for real thinking deer only cross the road at certain points in the year? Are you seriously this dumb?
Deer are more likely to be active during mating/hunting season. I don't see them at any other point during the year. Why do you think forests are cityscapes of animals? Go take a walk in the woods right now and write down how many deer you see.

Since i know you're a fucking retard i'll have to be the one to tell you that squirrels, racoons, and possums are much more of a threat than fucking deer lmao.

>Please go back to rudimentary literature classes and get some reading comprehension. I mean fuck, anon, really?
My bad but for real tho you're a fucking coward.
>bloo bloo look at all these people having fun its so dangerous

The absolute irony is how dangerous it is to work as an EMS/EMT from the staggeringly high work stress and suicide rate. Hvae fun eating a bullet after scraping my hot corpse off the road with my thumbs up.

>It isn't cowardly to do everything you can to aid your self preservation
You sit here and cry about bikefags. Not a single motorcyclist doesn't know what it means if they lose their balance for a split second or run into a pot hole or ride in elbow deep traffic.

Most people here that carry do so on the off chance they can kill a [person from a group they dislike due to internet memes] and get away with it.

Maybe if you polled US CC'ers as a whole and not just people on the second most autistic board on the internet that would be true though.

I have no position on the rest of the argument. I ride and understand how liberating it can be but think streetbikes and "bike culture" are toxic.

>>32256036
And out of the people I see speeding in excess of 100mph, 8 in 10 of them will be on a sportbike. Out of all possible vehicles, 80% of them are sportbikes.

The only people I have EVER seen doing 150+mph on a 60mph highway have been sportbikes. You never see a sportscar doing it.

A full third of the people I see doing something stupid on a motorcycle (front wheelies, double-the-speed-limit speeding, lane splitting at highway speeds, etc) aren't wearing any protective gear at all. No jacket, no pants/chaps, no boots, no helmet. And I live in a helmet-required state.

9 in 10 of the people I see doing brake-checks on the highway for the sole purpose of either pissing off the driver behind them are sportbikes.

I have witnessed sportbike riders throwing things (everything from sparkplugs to at one point a person riding bitch threw a full cinderblock at the car next to him, which caused a multi-vehicle collision when it went through the passenger window) at vehicles for no apparent reason on a nearly weekly basis. I have witnessed sportbike riders firing guns into other vehicles 4 times.

I have never witnessed a car driver or cruiser rider do any of that despite there being literally a thousand times more car drivers and a dozen times more cruiser riders in my area.

I'm /o/ enough to know what squids are, and most fatalities I see aren't dudes on rockets in flops and shorts. Just as often it's some late middle aged guy in full gear on a big bike. Same with guys just fucking up limbs. "But I've been riding safely for twenty five years!" Yeah well sorry, gramps, but your left leg looks like a turkey leg a dog got to. You probably won't walk on it ever again.

>Deer are more likely to be active during mating/hunting season. I don't see them at any other point during the year. Why do you think forests are cityscapes of animals? Go take a walk in the woods right now and write down how many deer you see.
Do you live in a major city or something? Here in Michigan deer are active all year and in large numbers. I saw four deer on my way home this morning and didn't even bat an eye it's that common. Same with turkeys. I routinely have groups of deer in my backyard. And I'm in a largeish town, not some bumbfuck cornfield.

>you're a coward for not willingly risking your life to ride a motorbike
Actually I'd say I just have a fondness of life to the point I don't feel like risking mine over something like a bike.

I'm not crying about you. If anything I'm lamenting that so many people fall for the meme and end up in the ER, if they're lucky enough to live that long. And yes, there is some inherent danger in being EMS, and it isn't the suicide rate (which I've never heard of being high). The difference is, I do this because I like saving people.
>>
>>32256266
honestly doing shit like that calls for a little vigilante justice
>>
>>32256230
Oh I've seen car drivers do plenty of stupid shit and get in wrecks. But their survival rate is incredible compared to a bike. I've seen guys walk away from a twisted hunk of metal that barely resembles a car. It's pretty amazing what being strapped in surrounded by airbags does.

A lot of the accidents I see on bikes are from bikers that were never seen and then try to blame the giant F350 they pulled out in front of for not being able to stop on a dime because the biker felt like blowing a stop sign. Or people backing out of driveways. So, so many people backing out of driveways.

My own dad used to be huge into bikes and the culture and all of that. The reason he stopped and never went back? Almost got gibbed from by a workvan backing out of a driveway. Dad says straight up he didn't give the larger vehicle the respect it deserved, thinking that they should be equals in looking out for each other. He will tell you he learned his lesson and that bikers need to accept that it's more on them then it is on anybody else.
>>
>>32256320
Agreed.

But why is it the "bike culture" so prevalent to sportbikes seems to think doing shit like this is okay?

What other culture specifically calls for carrying sparkplugs to throw at cars?

What other culture specifically calls for not wearing protective gear?

What other culture specifically calls for riding in an organized gang for the sole purpose of your buddies beating the shit out of/killing people who do something you don't like?

Oh that's right, criminal drug gangs. Because there isn't a whole lot of distinction and a lot of overlap between the two in most places.

Well if you're "/o/ enough" why don't you know that motorcycles are the midlife crisis object.
More than likely they're all beginners you're seeing with a few vets sprinkled in.

I live in the asshole of PA, there's plenty of forests. Once again, it's small animals that are the danger.

>I'm not crying about you. If anything I'm lamenting that so many people fall for the meme and end up in the ER
People are going to die, you can't stop it.
A family in a small car are in just as much danger of a soccormom on her phone in the Range than a bikefag but the bikefag has probably trained himself to put a lot of distance between himself and that SUV.

You're in this position because of your career choice. You only see the result of a poor rider and that has left its mark. This is why both of my parents stopped working as EMTs.

Most of these deaths can be avoided by wearing a helmet. I would be dead right now if i didn't wear a helmet.

NO.

Bikefags tailgate, try to shoot gaps, lane-split, and generally seem to go out of their way to put their bikes as close as humanly possible to other vehicles regardless of the speed at which they're travelling.

Why is racism a thing? Why are stereotypes a thing?

Because it is easy and accurate to associate the actions of a few (it's really not just a few, it may be a minority but not a tiny fraction of them--I'd estimate around 30-35% of sportbike riders do this shit) with the group as a whole, especially when the whole group is easily distinguished from the rest of society.

Same reason prey species avoid predator species. You never see a rabbit going

Well i do, and /dbt/ seems to do it as well.

>Bikefags tailgate,
Squids m8. Real bikers know how easy it is to lock the brakes on a bike.

>try to shoot gaps, lane-split,
Because we can. Accidents involving lane splitting are usually drivers buttmad that they can't do the same. It's not an unreasonable thought.
To argue otherwise will prove your bias against bike riders.

>Well if you're "/o/ enough" why don't you know that motorcycles are the midlife crisis object.
>More than likely they're all beginners you're seeing with a few vets sprinkled in.
Sports convertibles are the midlife crisis go-to, not bikes. And no, I see as many vets as beginners. For every idiot doing 30 over, there's an old codger blowing a stop sign.

Small animals are a danger, sure. But you're a retard if you think deer are only active at certain points of the year.

>A family in a small car are in just as much danger of a soccormom on her phone in the Range than a bikefag but the bikefag has probably trained himself to put a lot of distance between himself and that SUV.
Of an accident? Maybe. But the people in the car survive most often, that's the difference. A LOT more often. Ten thousand times more often.

>Most of these deaths can be avoided by wearing a helmet.
Some, for sure, but not "most". A helmet doesn't save you if your chest is caved in and your guts are a soup inside.

>>32256371
Like I said, that really isn't the case. For every dipshit, there's someone doing their best to be safe. It's no different in cars. The difference is, cars are built and heavily regulated to do their absolute best to aid in your survival.

No they aren't. The Harley is the go-to. This is why bikes don't retain their value at all.

>And no, I see as many vets as beginners.
Once again, you can't prove this.

>there's an old codger blowing a stop sign.
This isn't the military where you have to join before you're 24 years old.
My neighbor bought a Harley when he was 46 and crashed it a week later.

>Some, for sure, but not "most". A helmet doesn't save you if your chest is caved in and your guts are a soup inside.

In that case i died doing what i love. Leave it alone.

>>
>>32256486
>No they aren't. The Harley is the go-to. This is why bikes don't retain their value at all.
Debatable. Most guys in a midlife are married and their wives are fine with a car but not a bike.

I don't have any tangible "proofs", but of all the non-fatalities I see, plenty are guys who tell me just how long they've been doing this. One old guy, missing his left leg from the knee down and still riding, told me he had just accepted that every 100k miles to expect a major accident. He lost his right testicle that ride.

I'm not saying you can't love it. But please stop acting like people are cowards if they don't partake in your grand delusion that riding a bike makes you somehow superior or that they are a safe mode of transport if done "correctly".

I'm saying I don't get it as a hobby considering how likely you are to suffer grave injury all to ride a 2 wheeled vehicle in a world run by 4 wheel cars.
