I have a jp captured buffer. I really fucking like them, they are in all of my rifles. If I built more ARs they would all have them

They make it way more smooth and get rid of the SPRONG sound when firing or racking. Out of the box I have use them on 11.5" carbine, 16" middy and 20" rifle with no issues cycling wolf/tula.

It's good. 18" is the shortest you can reasonably get with rifle length gas system which has a nice and low gas pressure. You want to balance having enough dwell time to get the rifle to cycle without a huge gas port and keeping it as late as possible so that extraction is more reliable and requires less force.
