Is this animation /akg/ approved? I didn't make the model, it was supplied by my client. It's not the best model in the world but it's for a mobile game.

I don't know a ton about AK's so let me know if anything here is fucky
>>
>>32228756
Buttstock* fucking autocorrect.
>>
>>32228753
>tfw will never get a DDI that lasts more than 500 rounds before needs replacement parts
>>
>>32228760
You could make it much more fluid by having the left hand reach under and charge the rifle.
>>
>>32228774
There's already an AK12 and an ASVAL that I did and they both charge under, so I went with something different.
>>
>>32228779
>>32228774
Also before it's said, I know the AK12 has an ambi bolt carrier. I have no idea why but the client pushed me hard to charge it under like BF4 does.
>>
>>32228760
The spent magazine (really, the latch which secures it) shouldn't be pressed out with the front locking tab of the fresh magazine. The latch should be depressed by the front of the body of the magazine.

Also, the charging handle should be actuated by the support hand, not the hand that's next to the trigger, either reach under (behind the mag) and charge or the rifle should be tilted so the ejection port is skyward and the support hand should reach over to actuate the charging handle.
>>
>>32228779
The AK animation looks fine, if a bit slow. If you want to have a bit more variation, you could do an overhand charge where the rifle is tilted left and the left hand charges the rifle from the top.

Yeah, you'll never get a DDI because you'll never be able to afford one, child.

>>32228756
They're cheap as fuck here, that's why. The eventually passed Rob Ski's test with severe issues so people are now flocking to them.

>>32228760
Terrible, terrible model but the animation is fine.
>>
>>
Any of you guys keep your AKs pure?
I can kind of dig the tactical shit put on them but I rarely ever see people just keep their AKs stock anymore.
Nothing looks sexier than a nice wood stock set with a good finish.

I wanted to do overhand charging; but I'm working around the model being shit (already had animated it half way before realizing the modeller didn't know anything about AK's I guess). I'm keeping the right side off camera for a reason; I'm not sure he knows that the bolt goes back farther than the ejection port. The top of the fucking receiver is slanted.

Pic related. I'm sure you can understand why you want me to keep this off screen.

Bonus: He had the safety modeled with it engaged and I had to make a bone for it to move it off

>>32228807
Honestly he usually gets good models (especially for mobile), I'm not sure why this one is so shit.
>>
>>32228820
That's part of why I'm doing a historical build. Once rifle is done, rifle is done, and the only thing I'll ever need to keep buying for it are magazines and maybe little pieces of era-specific militaria to go with it.

Sorry your projecting doesn't work. Unlike you, I could afford an Arsenal. You know, they make guns that dont shit themselves every 500 rounds.
>>
>>32228859
1983 AKS-74N with a Izhmash parts kit from the same year on a 74u LLC.

I started this project in late 2013/early 2014 thinking I should just buy a Waffen Werks Bulgarian to have an "Afghan"-style AK, but I found out Izzy kits from the conflict were available at a decent price and in excellent condition and it all kinda spiraled out of control from there.

Rifle should be done and in my hands around Christmas or shortly after New Year's. Not sure if I'll bother chasing down a Soviet 1PN34 to complete the "N" part or not. If I can get that plum 6x5 bayonet from last thread (which was made between 1983-1985 according to most sources), I'll definitely grab that too.
>>
>>32228886
>>32228892
The muzzle is already threaded, 14x1LH
But I don't see any problems with doing a GB and FSB swap, other than you'll likely need RPK components as the barrel is beefier than a standard AK.

As I told Chimps a while back, I've been waiting so long that it'll probably be all I talk about for a month, so I definitely will. There's already some history in the kit itself, and if I can snag the bayonet (which the owner claims was a war trophy taken out of Iraq), it'll have even more. This mag is from the Chechen Wars, but it'll probably end up living in the gun too. One side says "death to the circumcised" (Chechen muslims), the other says "for Dima!!!"

Having so much human history tied up in one gun makes me feel things I can't quite explain.

That model is for a different game that is on PC. AK is for a mobile game. For the PC game we have actual professionals. One of our guys worked on Rainbow Six: Siege, another with Yager Games, we have a VFX from EPIC, etc.. This one is gonna be a good one.

My renders for that game's models don't do them justice. I do quick renders; here's what the MP40 looks like when it's actually lit and rendered properly.

>Our Ghost Of War
Just looked up some pictures and it seems nice. Not sure about the idea of a survival game set during WWII, but it could be neat if done properly I guess. At the very least, it looks well done, if not a bit too clean.

I was going to say that I hope your models are rendered better for the full game, because that render wasn't bad, but it certainly isn't 2016 gaming standard.

My rifle is only $400 less than an Arsenal to begin with. The stock alone boosts it over the cost of an Arsenal, and the ACOG kicks the Arsenal's price in the dick because it costs more than an Arsenal alone.

If they're anything like their more sporting-oriented rifles, they'll be fine. The real problem anyone has with them is that they're just a horrendous mish-mash of all sorts of AK/RPK variants without any of the features that true autists like (such as the bayonet lug and the cleaning rod guide/retainer).

I really wish they would do a true RPK or a true AK, because this in-between shit is a sin.

Face it, you riced out your Honda-tier AK. There's nothing wrong with that if you really like your DDI AK, but don't get your panties in a twist when it fails to impress the people who just bought a BMW or a Lexus on the "equal financial investment" grounds alone.

It doesn't make the gun worth more, but my argument wasn't that it made the rifle worth more, it's that I had the money to afford an Arsenal and chose not to buy it because it presented me no realistic advantages over my DDI despite being $400 more. I don't need the folding stock that is useless once you have an optic, I don't want the bad finish, and I don't want the terrible customer service that won't fix canted sights and other issues (I buy online because LGSs have ridiculous prices so I don't have the chance to check in person before buying).

The problem with the Honda comparison is assuming that a DDI is a Honda and that an Arsenal is something more expensive. Arsenals have one realistic advantage and it's only available to people who exclusively use iron sights, so what's the point in spending $400 more when I could use that for the optic I will put on my rifle which will nullify the folding stock?

>>32232204
Because I paid a shitload less than $400 for this piece of shit meme stock.

Once again, closer argument would be calling DDI a BMW and Arsenal an Audi: both are around the same price range, offer similar features, and one might have better features than the other, but those features aren't useful for everyone so not everyone is willing to pay the price for it.

I'm not in the market of trying to impress anyone, I'm in the market of trying to make people less stupid, which doesn't seem to be working because people are still lumping in DDI kit builds with DDI All American builds.

How have they proven to be a shit company? because of two faulty extractors? There were a couple reported problems with the DDI12 (though at least one was catastrophic) and a couple reported problems with the All Americans; neither of which I'll defend. Other than that, I've not heard a single problem about their guns. You do realize the occasional problem (including catastrophic) happens with Arsenal as well, right? >Their customer service is shit
You know this how? Have you had any issues with a DDI rifle before that you needed fixed? Everything I've heard about their customer service is great.

>Owner is not business savvy and has no clue what he is doing
Seems to me like he's got a good idea what he's doing: buying cheap, high quality AK parts kits and building them at a competitive price. Now he's trying to expand into an All American market to control the quality of everything like many other AK manufacturers have, and like it has for everyone else, there are snags along the way.

>Acts like a manchild on social media
I think the shitposting he does is funny, but yes it's far from professional to shit all over a few worthless shitposters who legitimately call the M16 a poodle shooter and act like PSA is the greatest thing since cast trunnions.

The problem with your equation that includes length of time is that it doesn't factor in the drop off in issues we've seen other DDI weapons have. I haven't seen a single issue with DDI 12s outside of the first handful of cases, and the American Made DDIs have had two extractor issues and two videos posted by internet nobodies with no followup from them.

Arsenal consistently has issues in each batch with the only question being "what is it this time?". DDI has consistently had first batch problems that are stopped immediately after they find out what the issue is, which is quick because people give them all sorts of shit over it.

>>32232575

Frankly, I don't understand why people are so quick to shit on a company that's actually trying to make good US AKs. They haven't succeeded yet but it seems like they're going to keep on trying to improve. If they manage to pull it off, more quality AKs in the market will be a good thing.

Its not hard to put a kit together right, especially when you have the correct tools. The fact that after all the hype he ruined the company rep by cheaping out. Sound real intelligent. If he knew what he was doing those rifle would have never left the factory. No better than IO

>>32232719
This is the one thing I'll give on: DDI definitely needs to fix their shit when it comes to the extractors, but I've got faith they'll do that considering how fast they've fixed other issues in the past. Still need to see that stupid fuck who put the bad extractors in not once but twice fired.

It's pretty obvious that ALL of their extractors are shit, which is why when they sent Rob another one it snapped too. "Every company makes lemons"
>>

>>
>>32232854
I disagree. If you look at DDI's response to Rob's test compared to IO, you see a pretty marked difference. The bag of bad ones is obviously bullshit but they're not blaming Rob and screaming "rigged" like Uli.

Starting your own production isn't a simple thing to do and as with every company, problems will arise and mistakes will happen. I'm not excusing these issues but time will tell if they choose to step up and fix it rather than ignore it. I personally think it's far too soon to make a sweeping statement that "DDI is just as bad."

>>
>>32232944
Sorry for the second post, but i do agree they can redeem themselves if they can show the ak community that they rectified any major issues.
>>
>>32233034
Pretty sure he said that they don't make the extractors, that they're outsourced. Kind of to be expected. They're forging their bolts and carriers now, but it would be a huge deal for them to set up a forge in house. So most likely the raw forgings are outsourced too. Whether or not DDI does the hardening on the extractors and the finishing touches, I dunno. But somewhere along the line something went wrong.

This is why pre-existing European factories are at such an advantage. They can do all of their casting, forging, lathe work and CNC/mill work in house because they already have all the hardware because it was paid for by the state. They have to do maintenance and eventually replace these machines but they're still at an advantage over a much smaller US company that has to outsource a lot of their important parts.
>>
>>32232984
Well Arsenal is upper middle, the problem is you're equating DDI and arsenal. We all make bad purchases, you don't have to defend them, it's just money
>>
>>32233034
>It's not hard to do multiple tests
The only thing I'll give you here is that they should've specifically tested the extractor that they sent out to Rob Ski as a replacement. Other than this, do you understand how QC checks work? Sure as hell doesn't seem like it. Not every single rifle has a test to see how many rounds it can shoot before failure because that would be an extreme waste of money.

Also, how fucking stupid are you? He bought out WW and moved it to a completely new location that was much more convenient for fabrication. I knew you weren't the most intelligent based on your inability to comprehend the English language, but surely even the dumbest anti-DDI shitposter would know this.

>>32233079
They are outsourced. I believe they went to three different companies and one of them failed to do proper heat treatment.

Are the threads and whatnot on bulgarian 74 barrels chrome lined? And if they normally are, I guess my chrome is fucked.

The threads and rest of the barrel end gets rusty pretty easily after shooting corrosive ammo, I got some lithium grease for the future I had just been oiling it until now and that clearly hasn't been working well).

No they're not, after shooting corrosive you gotta flush out your brake (if you still are using an Arsenal US made brake they're not chrome lined) and scrub around the threads or else it'll rust real quick

I have no idea how many diameters there are for cleaning rods, but I know I have two. One that drops down my 5.45 and .22 guns, and one that won't. Seems to me like you might have one of the bigger ones.
If you go out and buy a new one, which I really think you should, make sure it's marked specifically for .22 caliber guns.

I have folders in both major AK calibers and I still want a fixed stock rifle in 5.45. I almost bought a SGL-31 back before the 2013 panic but I built another AR instead and have been butthurt about it ever since.

Unless the import ban gets lifted or Arsenal LV decides to bring the slr-105 back I'm fucked. Most of the used SGLs I've had a chance to buy were fed bumpfired 7n6 exclusively by guys that never dreamed the tap would be shut off and are just jumping ship.

Refusing an FFL transfer doesn't do shit, that just means the FFL keeps your fucking gun until the company you bought it from or manufacturer sends them a return label. If you want a refund you either deal with the company you bought it from and they give you a refund and have it shipped back but a lot of places state all sales final on firearms and you can either deal with the manufacture (since were talking about aks I should warn you both century and arsenal are shit at CS) or let your gun be kept at the gunstore forever while you pout about.

I had my parents mail me a book i had as a young teenager that I used to read a lot called "AK47: The Complete Kalashnikov Family of Assault Rifles" by Duncan Long, and my copy is a 1988 edition and holy shit there's some funny straight up false information in here. I get it and I don't blame the guy because it was from before the Curtain fell and a lot of it was speculation (especially about 74s and 5.45 in general), but still stuff like:
>plum magazines ("later dark ABS plastic magazines") are less durable than bakelites ("steel reinforced fiberglass")
>74s have bayonet lugs but don't appear to have bayonets
>triangle sidefolders are made from plywood and the metal triangle sidefolders are rare
>the purpose of side folding stocks on the AKS74 is to allow use of 40 round RPK74 mags
>AKS74Us are called "AKR"s
>Krinkov dust covers are actually hinged to the barrel
>AKs are capable of at best 6 MOA

just all kinds of stuff like this that in hindsight is completely foolish and wrong but in the moment it was what we believed to be true.

>the purpose of side folding stocks on the AKS74 is to allow use of 40 round RPK74 mags
In what world does that make any sense?

>AKs are capable of at best 6 MOA
This was something that could have been tested. There were AKs in the country at the time for fuck's sake.

Another fun one I read while skimming through is how vz.58s are chambered for 7.62x45 which is identical to the Soviet M43 (aka 7.62x39)

>>32240050
That makes sense, didn't think of that

I'm sure there's more fun stuff in here and if I find anymore worthy ones I'll post them.
>>
>>32240050
I figured that's what they meant as well, but the soviet's would've just made doctrine "remove mag while folding or unfolding" rather than designing an entirely new system.

Anyone with any amount of common sense should have been able to figure that one out, but apparently they didn't and now it's been published for the world to see for 28 years.

>>32240065
>vz.58s are chambered for 7.62x45 which is identical to the Soviet M43 (aka 7.62x39)

Please post more, it's pretty amusing honestly.

Well he says
>at the time of this writing the USSR, DDR, Poland and Hungary are all known to be producing and adopting AK74s/variants, which wasn't the case for Hungary so that wasn't true.
>AK74 muzzle brakes are based on tank cannon brakes
>He goes on for a bit describing how the west is turning to bullpups and how AKs are ideally suited to be developed as bullpups
>Poland manufactures a large portion of AKs for Bulgaria
>Both the section on Chinese AKs and East German/DDR AKs are actually quite accurate, and to a lesser extent his info on Romanian dong handguard variations is also pretty accurate
>There are quite large sections on Finnish and Israeli AKs but I don't know enough about those to point out things that aren't obviously wrong
>Yugo AKs have a bolt hold open and Soviet/non Yugo magazines won't function in them because of this
>Most Yugo AKs cant accept bayonets due to permanently attached grenade launcher muzzle devices
That's just from the section on AKs, there's chapters about sniper rifles/DMRs, LMGs/GPMGs, SMGs, a chapter on "owning a Kalashnikov" about general maintenance, ammo, AK accessories, and more
>>
If you wanted to build a 103 clone, could you use an older AKM kit and replace the gasblock with a 90 degree, then use the proper receiver and rear trunnion?
>>
>>32240462
Hungos actually did make a 5.45 AK although it's a little know variant

I have pics on my laptop from Stottman's pdf book. I think it's called the NGV

The writer of the book probably didn't know about this variant because it's still not well known today so practically there's no way he could know about it in 1988. So he probably did write that off bad info. But he's coincidentally right
>>
>>32240690
huh the more you know, before typing that I did some quick googling about Hungary ever doing anything with 5.45 but found nothing
>>
>>32240646
There's a whole lot more to it than that. Given your lack of detailed knowledge (no offense) you would probably be satisfied by a 107FR for a 103 esque gun. Buy some Russian mags for it and shit. A smooth top cover really helps with the effect. Too drunk to go into detail about the differences but there is a lot, a lot of differences between an AKM and a 103

They're a meme gun that only got 15 minutes of fame because Century made them into VZ2008s and sold them for $500 for an entire kit.
