Just started carrying a week or so ago. Wife is ambivalent, but ultimately understands and feels safer. Always asking questions about is it loaded? safe? etc. This hits the local news and wife sees it and says, "I thought you said that couldn't happen!"

So what type of gun do you think it was? I carry a Shield with thumb safety and a round chambered and have zero worries about an accidental discharge if I drop it. Is it unpossible?
Probably a Hi-Point, Lorcin or Taurus. Quality pistols are drop-safe.

The guy was probably pocket carrying a derringer or something. I honestly wouldn't worry about it with a shield and a decent holster.
>>32223064
Could be a revolver

>>32223176
Almost zero chance of accidentally going off.
>>32223193
A lot of Derringers have exposed triggers, anon.
>>32223220
And they are SAO. They have to be cocked.
>>32223220
i honestly wouldnt want one with a trigger guard.
>>32223064
Could be one of a long list of older guns that aren't drop-safe.
You should show her this thread, OP.

>well honey its not likely but if you'd feel better I could go buy a new holster...
>>32223064
I am a new carrier as well and I have similar concerns. I've got a S&W SD9 and I don't keep a round chambered but I understand the difficulty that would arise should I need to draw. I am just concerned about accidental firings if I were to keep a round chambered. Do accidental discharges occur from manufacturer defects at all?

your gun will only go off if you pull the trigger, if its a factory defect and can be proven so you have a phenomenal lawsuit on your hands.
There really isnt enough information. He could be some pleb carrying a SAO Weapon cocked with safety off. Even then tho. I imagine a 92fs, there is still a firing pin block

1. Gun is fine.
2. Stop letting your wife tell you what to do.

>Do accidental discharges occur from manufacturer defects at all?
Basically no.
>I don't keep a round chambered
Then you are dumb.

You shouldn't have a chance of dropping it because you should be carrying it in a holster that cost you at least $40. If you are carrying like a spic or with a shitty Uncle Mike's yes you could have trouble.

I carry a USP in Condition 1, AKA hammer cocked, safety on. The oversized safeties HK likes to use are great because you can easily and naturally click it down to "fire" as you're drawing.
But anyway, that guy fucked up on several levels. Number one, by dropping his gun, or having a shitty holster. Number two, in order for it to fall out of a holster, he had to have been fucking with it, or had to have been doing cartwheels or some shit. If you're carrying a gun in public, don't fuck with it, and don't be putting yourself in a situation where it could fall out.
And number 3, he shouldn't have been carrying a piece of shit gun that would fire when dropped.
