And another one bites the seabed.

But hey, at least the Russian Navy isn't at war with any Asian rising power.
>>
They should have picked the Kirov cruiser one as their flagship and scrap/retire kuznetsov from duty outside of training.
>>
I thought they had given up on flying the aircraft from the carrier and were relegated to using the airbases? I guess they tried again.
This is just sad.
>>

>check 'em

Or they should have skipped sending an Aircraft Carrier altogether and keep flying them from Russia to Iran and Iran to Syria instead, like they have already been doing.

I wonder how a Chinese navy vs Russian navy fight would go? The nips were/are competent but the Chinks... man the fucking Chinks...
>>
>>32220422

Its Russia's attempt at Gunboat diplomacy. They've been trying to find a way to do this since PtG and have never managed it. They are just not a naval power (in the sense of being able to properly project power through the navy). This will backfire in the long run for Putin as it will cause other CV capable nations to question they're ability to mount valid, powerful strikes at sea from CV based planes. It will force other nations to focus more on ASW since SAM will not be as huge of an issue as they are now.
>>
>>32220356
The Russian version of "Top Gun" would start with cool music and jet's falling right off the flight deck into the sea after take off.
>>
>>32223713

Something similar to WWI. The RU would likely do an offshore blockade and leave CH to make the next move, which is the worst situation a nation can be in. The reality is the CH navy can VERY easily be bottled up in the China sea and all they can do is sail in circles trying to find a hole out of the China Sea (which would be hard to manage against the 2nd largest Sub force on earth. You'll likely get a Jutland style incident (not size, but that it will be accidental) eventually since that's all China would be able to manage due to size and capability of their Blue Water forces.
>>
Does this mean that the SU-33 is on its way out soon?

I'm quite fond of that plane.
>>
>>32223814

The plane is fine. Its the launching/landing platform that's the issue. When launched from a Land Base the SU-33 does great.

Why even spend money on carriers if you're not going to intimidate/attack drastically weaker nations?
Think about it. In conventional warfare, carriers are a fucking liability. Unless you have 100% air-tight defenses, one well-placed/timed anti-ship missile or torpedo and it's all ogre.

>>
>>32227666
And it still doesn't work.
>>
>>32227592
The point I was trying to make was that the ramp-area and the landing area are on two completely different vectors.
>>
>>32227695
Because carriers need maintenance more than once a decade.
>>
>>32227753
When your carrier cannot leave port without a tug then its only logical that one should try and fix the problem, it doesn't matter if its been a decade since it was last brought in, the problem needs to be addressed.

Liaoning is of the same class yet it works. Kuznetsov is a rusted shit bucket thats been neglected for nearly two decades.
>>
>>32227806
You are rambling. The fact that it is smoky today and the arrester gear doesn't work very well has nothing to do with a refit six years ago.
>>
>>32224213
>only 5 times a year
>>
Russian Masviroski

They show you stuff you want to see then when you do not anticipate it, they strike. California might be Crimeafornia.
>>
>>32227878
Doesn't have anything to do with the refit. I am just stating the decrepit state of the carrier and the fact that it hasn't ever been in proper working order.

The smoke is indicative of trouble with the engine that has gone unresolved for over a decade, Liaoning uses the same engines and doesn't produce a death cloud and is able to sortie many times a year. They're wasting what little money they have on refitting a ship that barely works.

>The smoke is indicative of trouble with the engine that has gone unresolved for over a decade
More on the quality of fuel they use.
>and is able to sortie many times a year
For how long each time, and how far does it deploy? Kuznetsov sails around in the White sea often as well, and usually sails to the med during the winter.
>>
>>32228279
Kuznetsov is the only ship in the fleet that smokes that bad (its escorts presumably use the same fuel but don't smoke half as bad), well if you discount the ships made in the earlier 70's (which reflects poorly on kuznetsov anyways). Kuznetsov does not usually travel outside of the north sea, and it never travels without a tug.

Its a floating joke.
>>
>>32228279
Most ships that size that have diesel engines use shit quality bunker fuel, and very rarely will smoke like the Kuznetsov.

The "Aircraft carrying cruiser" was always a sham.

Aircraft Carriers aren't allowed to pass through the Bosphorus straights according to the Montreux conventions.

So they slapped some ASHMs on it to take advantage of the legal loophole.

It was a dreary and grey day on the Black Sea. Kuznetsov was puffing along the coast line with his two slutty tug boats, Anna and Klara. The Thin Putin was waiting for him. "Da, ser," said Kuznetsov, "What is it, ser?" "Your doing well on your coast line, but our Syrian buttboys do need help," explained the Thin Putin.

"You're right, ser," said Kuznetsov, "But what can we do?" "We can't build another carrier in Ukraine," explained the Thin Putin, "But I may have someone who could help." "Da, Ser," said Kuznetsov. A few days later, Kuznetsov saw another carrier who looked very familiar. "What?!" exclaimed Kuznetsov.

The carrier was yellow, with gleaming engines, with better fighter jets, and with better sailors. "It's my old sister, the former Varyag, who underwent a gender change and became Liaoning" he exclaimed. "Ching chong ning nong?" asked the yellow carrier, "is that you?" "Yes," said Kuznetsov. Soon they were chatting like old friends, and they really are friends.
>>
>>32228071
>Liaoning uses the same engines
Not really. The Chinese bought a near inoperable hulk, and had to extensively refit it- the engines are at the very least deeply refurbished if not outright replaced. Considering how the TDP was a major part of the deal for the carrier, I wouldn't be surprised if they bought if for the TDP and to have a training ship while the engineers learned what they could.
>>
>>32228350
Diesels don't burn bunker C. It'd clog up the fuel systems in a blink. One of the main advantages of steam plants is that you can burn near anything and it'll work.
You could probably use the shit the Kuz is burning to coat roads.
>>
>>32228378
>The Chinese one sat in Ukraine for a decade decaying slowly
The Chinese practically rebuilt it, not surprising it's so shiny. If the Russians rebuilt the Kuz it'd be shiny too (until the alcohol discolored the steel)
>>
China, known for not only blatantly ripping off peoples work, but also having cities engulfed in smog, saw all the smoke pouring from their 2nd hand carrier and thought " we need to fix this "

Russia thought " When smoke is behind you, you cannot be of breathings it in comrade "
