Best cheap bolt action that isn't a Mosin?

I need a truck gun for my lake cabin and would prefer something cheap with cheap ammo. Already have a Mosin so I'd like to not get another one, but I will if that's really the only choice.

You can chamber and safely fire 7.62x54r but you wouldn't hit your target if you were 2 feet away with it.

Fixed it for you.

Category 1916 Spanish Mausers. Cursed by the Magical Fuddlore, with some actual truth in it. Are cursed by others (again some truth in it) for being "weak" compared to Real Wehraboo Mausers.

They don't gain much in auctions. Due to this fuddlore "with some truth in it".

Fun fact, they carry the emblem of fasce and axe, but it's not fascist related at all.
>>

>for being "weak" compared to Real Wehraboo Mausers.
Small ring Mausers have weak chambers compared to K98s. Deal w/it.

I mean if you want a gun to blow up in your face you can't go wrong with a Spanish Mauser.

Or you could pay less for a K98 that will handle anything you can fit in the chamber.

Anon, it's still a Mauser design bolt. Spaniards did cut corners in make and materials but it works, thanks to Paul Mauser design.

I have not heard a 1916 spanish blowing up in anyone's face because of rebarreling it in 308 or such.

Not all Mausers are created equal.

>I have not heard a 1916 spanish blowing up in anyone's face because of rebarreling it in 308 or such.
Then you haven't looked very hard.
This becomes an even bigger problem if OP did buy it and tried to fire full power freight-train tier 8mm.

The cheapest 8mm i've seen is loaded to C.I.P specifications which i would never put in a Spanish Mauser.

Ishapore 2a1

It's a lee enfield copy in 7.62 Real Fuckin' Nato that holds 12 rounds that was made in the mid 20th century to supply the rest of the Indian forces because they didn't have enough FAL copies to arm all the zerg- I mean troops.

They're like 200-400, and all reviews point to them being pretty bomb ass guns

Don't get a Russian meme gun, get a reliable, fast shooting, accurate rifle in a tried and true (and now easy to get!) calibre!

And the story was, I guess
>hand load for exotic ammo with a double powder charge
Which is the the most common fuck up with them. And also the most untold.

Come on. It was a real military service rifle. Not a Kriss Vector.
>>
>>32219031
The fact of the matter is they can't handle high pressure and will never be able to. You put your life on the line shooting one of these unless you use specific low-pressure ammo. Even if it never explodes it'll start losing headspace.
Why bother buying a piece of shit when you can get a less shitty gun for a little more money?

>Come on. It was a real military service rifle.
So were plenty of other disasters like the INSAS. It's like shooting a .357 out of a .38. It will work for maybe 2 or 3 shots before the frame warps itself into scrap metal.

It's cool if you want to believe but the fact of the matter is the action will never be as strong as a K98 or other long action, large ring Mauser.
Christ, some of them don't even have a 3rd lug.

OP should get a Ruger or something.
>>
>>32218992
used to own one. only complaint was the shitty indian-tier shit finish.

but otherwise a decently made firearm. third party magazines do exist now, which has made it less painful to own, if i still owned one
>>
>>32219096
But they do handle .308 in the hands of modern enthusiasts. With no failure.

You are such an usual unapologetic fudd, please.

>OP should get a Ruger or something.

Jeff Cooper's Scout Rifle? Fudd! What a Fail in fulfilling the conditions of OP's inquiry.
>>
>>32219167
>But they do handle .308 in the hands of modern enthusiasts. With no failure.
Once again, it's not about catastrophic failure. It's excessive wear from doing something the gun was never made to handle.
>f..fu..fudd!
lmao keep chasing that boogeyman. Fuddlore is usually based on some truth and the truth is small ring Mausers can't handle 60k psi for very long.
Why do you think SAAMI 8mm is down-loaded?
Maybe it's so people don't accidently eat metal from using shit that's too much for their Mauser.
Stop being a poorfag and buy a Mauser that can handle any ammo.

>Jeff Cooper's Scout Rifle?
Thanks for putting words in my mouth.
I was actually talking about AR-556. It's fairly cheap and Ruger quality.
Have fun with your grenade friendo.
>>
>>32219250
>I was actually talking about
You didn't talk about anything. You just bashed things without any real knowledge base. Fudd.

>I was actually talking about AR-556
Which is not what OP asked for.

>Have fun with your grenade friendo
Which is something you never proved. At least according to the people in Youtube having these 1916 Spanish Mauser rifles in original or rebarreled forms.

It was a real service military bolt rifle. Get over it.
>>
>>32219332
>You just bashed things without any real knowledge base.
I provided an example of a Spanish Mauser grenading because of it's poor locking strength
>n-no true .308!
>Which is not what OP asked for.
Neither is a Spanish Mauser lmao.

>Which is something you never proved
see:>>32218995
Blown up Spanish Mauser.
It's the fault of the shit action. A K98 could take anything that fit in the chamber. Even an M48 can handle better.

>It was a real service military bolt rifle
So was the INSAS, If a military decides to adopt a rifle it's because it's cheap enough to arm a military, not because it's the best thing.
deal w/it poorcunt.

>You can chamber and safely fire 7.62x54r but you wouldn't hit your target if you were 2 feet away with it.
What is fudd lore? While 7.62x54 will chamber and doesn't exceed chamber pressure, that case will almost always rupture (sending gas back your way). Also a .311 projectile bouncing around a .322-.323 at smallest barrel (the nominal lands size), will most likely damage the rifling more than a properly sized round.
>>
>>32219743
>What is fudd lore?
Dunno, I've done it.
>>
>>32220186
Did you use steel cased?
I have tried it with brass, both with a .311 projectile and .330 trying to make some more brass. I always got case ruptures.
>>
>>32220350
>Did you use steel cased?

Suprised no one has suggested Turkish mausers yet. Massively underappreciated, perfectly serviceable guns. I bought my model 1893 here for a whopping $160 and it shoots sub-2 MOA with my handloads

>>32218552
got one of these too, in 7x57, still haven't shot it though. a lot of them were converted to .308 when they were imported but supposedly the loads should be kept light in them since the small ring action really isn't meant for some of the hot commercial loadings that are available

>>
>>32226227
The Spanish mausers are one of the better versions available. If they are in fact available for "stupid cheap", buy one immediately. Any modern ammo is fine, though American-manufactured ammo is usually under-loaded so if you want to get the full power out the round stick with Euro loads. Older surplus ammo is usually corrosive, which isn't really that big of a deal if you know what you're getting and clean the rifle appropriately.
>>
Savage axis if you want new. If milsurps your thing, I can't recommend a Swedish Mauser highly enough. Ammo's a pain but it's smoother than butter and pretty damn accurate.
>>
>>32226361
J&G has 'em for about 180. I might just have to get myself one for Christmas.
I've got a nugget and a tokarev and a ton of corrosive ammo so one more dirty shooter won't bother me much.
>>
Spanish Mausers are fairly cheap. Get one in .308, they aren't "too weak" unless rusted to shit. Large Rings can take .458 Winchester Magnum rechamberings, there's no reason why small rings can't take .308's. Hell, the K98a was chambered in 8mm Mauser and people loved them.

Other than that you're stuck with el-cheapo bullshit rifles. Ruger American, Savage Axis, whatever the hell Winchester just came out with...best of these is probably the Mossberg Patriot, which is somehow powerful enough to handle a .375 Ruger. You're gonna need a scope. Because you already have a Mosin I suggest going with a .223 simply because you already have a full power rifle.

Failing that, you can try to find a used post-64 Winchester or 2000's era Marlin. They are generally unloved but effective assuming they're of good manufacture. If they're not, send them back.
