90% of people from ex-ussr countries hate russia

how would the warsaw pact had performed if they had attacked west germany in the 1980s?

wouldnt the conscript soldiers just deserted ?

>wouldn't the conscript soldiers just deserted?
Generally speaking, people tend not to run away when the consequence is death. Otherwise, the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan would have had more deserters.
>>
back then it was much different. if it did happen there would be three maybe four days for the USSR to get as far as possible until either side used a tac nuke. Then everything would have stopped and the talking hopefully would start. The idea was USSR would drive through the Folda Gap, if they got through it was all but a nuke option for NATO. Most tankers on the NATO side had a time of living if it did happen between one to ten minutes depending on where they were stationed.

The other Warsaw pact countries may have been a bit more lax in dealing with people not wanting to fight for the USSR than the USSR itself. In a few years they'll give up entirely, and that without any military push for it.

A Russian deserting in Afghanistan would also have been pretty short on having somewhere to go. Locals probably won't be too keen on him. A DDR soldier in West Germany on the other hand would have a much easier time defecting to the west.

Simply surrendering to the enemy here would also be a much more appealing idea, and make it hard for the USSR to have you executed, short term at least. I don't think anyone expected Saddam to be kind to deserters, but that didn't keep the Iraqi army fighting in '91.

On the other hand, NATO would probably bring a bit more fire-power to bear than the Mujahedin could, meaning that the likelihood of death if you do not desert is a lot higher here.

So there are some things suggesting that the two scenarios would play out somewhat differently.

Slightly different circumstances. Nobody would want to defect to Afghanistan, but everyone would want to defect to the West, with its blue jeans and pop music.

The East was kept extremely disillusioned with the West and the world in general.
Remember, the Soviets had held these areas since 1945. They had dealt with most resistors and been implementing an iron wall policy of propaganda. The real hatred of the Soviets came in 1991 when the wall fell and the peoples saw just how badly they had been lied to.

Name an ex Commie bloc country that actually likes Russia.

The only places that like Russia are places that were forcibly resettled with actual Russians, and stand in stark contrast to the original peoples that despise Russia.

Belarus.

Not according to CIA. But what do they know about geography, right?

When Korean War started and everyone thought other commie block countries would get involved, people here in Poland were happy as fuck. People started openly talking shit about commies, cheering American, cars started honking at US embassy, people were singing "Truman, Truman, drop the bomb" and how with "one nuke and we'll come back to Lviv". Young people started enlisting to army so they could be sent to Korea and desert to US side. All of this happend during "Stalinist Winter" of 1950s. If WWIII started in the 1980s people here, probably in Czechoslovakia and Baltic states too, would openly rebel against commies.
>>
>>32208117
At the risk of your family getting killed/deported? No way, unless this hypothetical war quickly took a bad turn for the commies.
>>32208133
It might have been different in other corners of ex-soviet bloc, but here soviet propaganda never really worked. We used to have way of speaking (called Aesop's speech here, I'm sure other ex-soviet countries had their own versions of this) which made fun of the soviet system without directly criticizing it. So yeah, everybody participated in the spectacle, but nobody really believed what the talking heads were saying. Besides, some people who managed to get permits to travel to Poland, Bulgaria or Hungary (or anywhere outside Soviet Union itself) came back with blue jeans, vcrs, proper stereos and other commodities that were impossible to get in the Soviet Union itself. That pretty much confirmed that the further you go to the west, the better life gets, and everybody knew this as well.
>>
>>32208167
Are you pants on head fucking retarded or are you just saying it isn't a country for the sake of preserving your argument?
>>
>>32208181
You do know that that crap is quite often factually incorrect. Whether it's outdated, a mistake slipped by or intentionally and blatantly wrong.
>>
>>32207734

I read a couple books that referred to CIA assessments of this awhile ago. It depended who the PACT forces were fighting.

Czechoslovakian or Polish forces were expected to fight hard against West Germans because they feared a West German victory would mean losing their post-ww2 territorial gains. They were expected to fight less enthusastically against Brits or Americans.

Hungarians and East Germans were expected to fight less hard against West Germans.

>>32208225
he's probably just meming
>>
>>32208232
but what if i told you the fact that Belarus is a country isn't outdated, a mistake slipped or blatantly wrong?
>>

You do understand that I was talking about the 'fact' book in general cause it was the title in that website screencap?

In case of war all the warsaw pact combat units will be trasferred to a soviet front HQ and commanded by a Soviet officer, the local national HQ only train and equip them, but they combat along the rest of the soviet forces in europe.

If you try to desert, well, sooner or later the kgb and internal security units guarding the back will find you and shoot you.
