Why don't squads have designated members who also carry semi or full auto 22lr rifles to use for suppression? I don't know about a Derka but if I'm behind a car I'm not going to say "I think that's just .22, we can leave cover"
>>
>>32191404
Because infantry men aren't weak little pussies who need to carry .22 because its lighter. If they need a lot of ammunition, they will carry a lot of real ammunition, whether its heavy or not.
>>
>>32191555
It's not just weight, it's cost. A .22 can range from 3-8 cents per round
>>
>>32191404
>if I'm behind a car I'm not going to say "I think that's just .22, we can leave cover

You would if you were engaging from 400 yards away and the .22 bullets were expending their velocity and falling into the dirt before making it half of the way to your position.

>Suppression fire

>400 yards away

lrn2urban combat
>>
>>32191598

So what you're really asking is why don't we equip our squads with weapons that are only effective in urban combat and leave the soldier completely helpless in all other combat scenarios?
>>
>>32191404
The IDF uses .22s to clip rock throwers in the legs.

>>
>>32191404
That's basically what .223 accomplished. It was adopted for suppressive fire use.
>>
>>32191404
Not a terrible thought but rimfire being less reliable would preclude it as a possibility. Having a squad designate someone with a belt fed gun in 5.7 might be more interesting.
>>
>>32191678

Needs more miniguns in 5mm centerfire.
>>
Firstly, it doesn't make sense to add another cartridge type to the logistics system.

Secondly, the FN MINIMI (the most used SAW in NATO) already is criticised for its lack of effective range (some countries consider also using a 7.62x51 instead of the normal 5.56x45 version) in many of the situations they have been in. Using automatic .22 weapons for suppression will make things worse.

>look mom I posted it again!

I can't tell if you're trying to go another round with this or if it's become a meme at this point. Every time we tell you this is retarded, because it's retarded.

Kill yourself.

Oh and a shell counter like in aliens.
>>
>>32191404
if youre going to start posting this bullshit again at least step it up beyond gliderfag levels and move onto "why don't we just make teleporting artillery shells"-fag levels
>>
>>32192240
Don't even remind me about that thread.

Where the fuck do people that retarded come from?
>>
>>32192247
i don't know, i hope he was just shitposting.
in terms of bait threads i find some of the A-10/F-35 cross shitposters (a-10 posts in f-35 thread and vice versa) to be quite entertaining though
>>
>>32192178
It would have to open along the top and be hinged at the front.
>>
>>32192266
now that you mention it, why don't we chanber the A-10s GAU in .22? it could BRRRRRRRRRRRRTTT for hours
>>
>>32191404
Supposedly Israel does use .22 rifles to surpress kebab riots
>>
>>32191404
Logistics. Easier to carry a lot of .223 than it is to carry some .223, a lot of .22, and a separate rifle to fire it in.
>>
>>32191610
looks that way. I vote for bb-guns, they are perfect for OP's fantasy world
>>
>>32193051
Could you hear it? Because... I mean if you used 10/22 barrels and mounted it on a helicopter, I think you might be on to something.

What if we just arm soldiers with American 180s? Then they can have ultimate suppressing fire!
