Communists didn't gain power by legislating away gun ownership, they shot gun owners dead in civil wars. Gun control legislation later on would've had minimal impact on any insurrection, because insurgency is kinda sorta totally against the law anyway.

You do realize what a research paper is, right? It should be thorough, well thought out, and it should present both sides of the argument. I don't know how you plan on going in depth on so many possible routes you can take.

Get on it and focus one one argument of gun control presenting the other side in an objective manner then provide your argument against it. You're trying to do too much and it's going to be a shit 5 page paper if you don't. You need to reel it in and focus on a specific subject.

By incidents, definitely not. Random mass murder of all types would be less now than just firearm-related mass murder then.

Don't know about by death toll, but I suspect not either. Port Arthur had enough deaths to easily tip the average. The largest death tolls since then have been a couple fires, the one at the old folks home, and the backpacker's, but I'm pretty sure that'd only account for a couple dozen deaths.

I forgot to mention, you have to discount Port Arthur since it's such a major outlier. It was the deadliest mass shooting in the western countries until Orlando I'm pretty sure. Nothing like that had happened either before or since.

I got the numbers using this page of wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_massacres_in_Australia) and then adding everything from the 1970's moving forward (Massacres of natives doesn't really count).

It's something like 104-73 if you include Port Arthur.

Just going by the dates and adding them in my head, I came to
102/137 including Port Arthur, 81 post-Port Arthur.

That's ignoring stuff like the Bodies in the Barrels started before 1996, and weren't single events.

That's also ignoring the relative population difference, we've grown by about 50% since 1990, so adjusting for per capita would make us look even rosier.
