A pistol is a firearm that cannot be shouldered. That is the legal definition. It is interpreted to mean that you can't put a stock on a pistol.

That's why the sig arm brace is a legal grey area because people are putting them on their AR pistols and shouldering them, even though they were designed as an arm brace.
