Local cabelas has m1s for sale for $1700 and up. Is this a good deal? I live in kansas and m1 garands don't ever really come up on the secondary market, and I don't see them at gun shows either. Ive been looking a few years. CMP doesn't seem to be taking orders anymore either

>1700
Unless its a Winchester fuck no

You can get a serviceable M1 for $630 from the Civllian Marksmanship Program still. On the open market, $1700 for a regular shooter grade is pretty steep. Most of the time they are in the $900-$1300 depending on the manufacturer. However, collectible Garands can go for much more than $1700 as well. A correct, as issued from the factory Winchester runs about $3500-$4000 alone.

International Harvesters go for a lot more than Winchesters do. When I worked at the CMP, I pulled about 3 Winchesters out of the sorting crates for every International.

I literally don't know what the deal with this is. I keep seeing garands over $1000 at gun shows and gun shops, even my friend bought one used on armslist, and every time i mention the CMP i just get this "what the fuck is wrong with you" look, or dead silence
Idk more for me

your friends are lazy idiots who can't follow simple directions in order to order from cmp.
>>32148681
It's honestly not that difficult to meet the requirements for purchasing from the CMP. People on /k/ like to make it out to be a level of red tape similiar to getting your name changed

Exactly. What is it again, membership to a gun organization (join the Garand collectors association they have links to, it's $20), proof of marksmanship (make a fake certificate from a fake local gun club if you're too autistic to figure this out), and a DL? Just notarize and send away...

Some people would rather pay almost 2,000 for a $650 rifle because they're all lazy shits who were raised with immediate gratification
>>32150336
Pretty much. It's a group formed back in the good ol' days by good ol' boys because they wanted to see Dad's rifle go to a good home with someone who can shoot it properly.
iirc a conceal carry permit is all you need as well if you dont want to deal with clubs and shit

What does this mean?
>>32148077
>tfw I want my rifle to match my tractor.
IH M1s are literally twice what I paid for my Win.
>>32147981
>tfw going to try and move to america in a few months
>only rifle I REALLY desperately want to own is an M1
>ammo is expensive
>rifle itself is expensive as tits unless you go CMP which apparently has no stock and requires me to be citizen, meaning I couldn't get one for months if not years
Wife to be's uncle apparently has one though so that's a start.

Other anons claim 30-06 is a wallet emptier. I dunno, I just shoot .22 in my current country, handled a few .223's and .30-06's before though, just never fed them from my own pocket.

not amerifat but if it's anything like my country, it just means getting a copy of the documents made that are certified as geniune (exact) copies by a trusted public servant.
