My aero receiver and my LWRC receiver have nylon tipped screws that push up against the rear lug. It's hard to get it tuned exactly right because if you make it too tight, it's way too hard to get the takedown pin out. And then it just comes loose anyways. Spring loaded sounds smarter.

I'm really wanting to build one of these styles of rifles but I want to do it in .308 with a 14.5. The problem I'm running into is that the 14.5 CMV .308 barrels I find have a taper after where the gas block sets where I don't think I can fit one of those flip up gas blocks.

Any suggestions? It's going to be a mid length has system so it'll be a mock dissapator.

They're all good.
Depends on a few factors like whether you want longevity over accuracy, if you prefer one handguard vs another, etc. BCM makes good uppers.
The trijicon stuff will last forever. Vortex makes good mid tier scopes for the money, though.
Only really useful for competing or if you don't have a QD mount on your scope.
Technically, carbine is most reliable since it receives more gas, but wears parts out marginally faster. Mid and rifle length shoot much softer.
Yes, but it will function fine.
Magpul UBR is the most popular option for that.

Thank you for helping Cota. I'm mostly interested in longevity but being able to do MOA groups (with the right ammo) would be great. I live in a rural area that's fairly open and want something I can mag dump with from time to time but still shoot varmints at 200ish yard distances if I feel up to it. It'll probably be spending a lot of time loaded as a home defense gun too. It would have a 13+ inch handgaurd, flashlight, bipod, and mid range optic on it.

Do you trust quick detach scopes to hold their zero everytime?

It uses its own smaller thread switch. Pic is included one. Connector looks the same as the switches for the "tick" series of lights but I obviously havent tested those. Those switches also have rail mounts that look slightly cooler than this one. I dont run tape switches so I dont really plan on trying them.
