My dad's best friend was a kid during "The Troubles" in Ireland. He remembers being woken up multiple times in the night from car bombings and gunfights down the street. He still doesn't understand what the fuck the whole point of that was, but is a diehard IRA supporter to this day. God bless independence.

The main plan seemed to be to create an EU army, and disband all national armies.
That way the EU could hold on to power and suppress any nation that wanted to leave the EU.

A highly modified MAS-36 with a Match barrel and all kinds of other fancy accuracy enhancing features.
It's used by the French and some of their ex-colony armies as a DMR.

As for the tape and stuff I imagine that's just some field expedient modifications done by the user because he likes them better.

FRF2 not FRF1 anon. The FRF2 is in 7.62x51 NATO, the FRF1 in 7.5x54 MAS

FRF2 not FRG2... the FRG2 was based on a Mas36 action rechambered in 7.62x51 and did not saw a large production, a few hundreds at most (it was intended for the civillian market but some branches of the french air force dedicated to base protection (air commandos) did buy some because they were cheaper), the FRF2 has an elongated modified version of the mas36 receiver with ZERO parts in common. Just like the FRF1which was already very different from the Mas36.

It is refered to as a precision rifle in the french army and soldiers firing it as "tireur de précision" ("TP") while those firing the bolt action .50BMG PGM Hecate II (or FR12.7 in the french army) are referred to as "tireurs d'élire"("TE") or elite shooters.

Nowadays this distinction TE/TP does not exists anymore since the french army is going to replace the FRF2 with a real DMR rifle which is the HK417.
Every other bolt action or "sniper" version of a firearm, including .338 and .50 cal rifles is going into TE groups which already were quite a different bunch of people.

Now about the duct tape, needless to say : these things are old as fuck and when a fix is needed, it's DIY.

Since a few years, and because the soldiers are fed up with the shit they have to operate with, several of them tweak, fix, or modify stuff as they please in commandos groups.
