Also thinking the fixed stock model would be the better one of the two to choose.
Always heard having a folding stock on a AK is just horrible in terms of use except for the folding stock on the AK74M which is really just a fixed stock that folds.

>>32124287
Well going from the importer they should be compatible only they won't leave the bolt open at the end of a magazine.

But yeah at the end of the day just looking for a alternate to the SKS I own and another way to burn thru the 1200 7.62x39 Norinco ammo I have.

Too bad this isn't Type-03/QZB 03 were talking about here I would buy that in a instant.

I want more trench art mags. I've only got a couple (four I think) but they're all either so faint that it's nearly impossible to take a decent picture of them or the trench art is definitely there but also along with tons of other scuffs that really obscure it.

I'm not liking the green stock but the green lower handguard with the sheet metal upper handguard looks pretty cool desu

That would look really cool with an underfolder or more realistically for that rifle a wire sidefolder
>>
>>32124497
That particular Chinese folding stock, with the reddish Bakelite cheek rests on either side, is very rare in the US. A few Chinese AKs have them. I find them to be surprisingly comfortable--by folding stock standards--right up there with the triangle folder with a decently done paracord wrap.

I'd still get a fixed stock unless I had a specific need for a folder, like perhaps for instance if I needed to be able to carry a rifle in a tennis racket bag.

It's a 2008. You can tell by the first two digits of the serial number.

I've been looking for that specific variation of the smooth Russian top cover for some time. I'll trade you one of my newer smooth Russian top covers with money added if you're willing. There's only a minor difference between the two. Email me if you're interested.

>>
>>32125199
not bad, these sold for around 600 new before the import ban. so with the ammo that's a pretty good deal.

are you going to convert it? that's a fun project

>>
>>32125176
kewl. have you tried taking it off and putting it back on to verify it holds zero?

also, what optic are you using? I know there are different patterns of red dot. the Aimpoint Micro T-1 has a proprietary attachment, of which a version is available for the Regulate mount, and which Primary Arms and some other makers of similar sights copy. Other red dots go directly onto a Picatinny rail, like the Bushnell TRS25/"AK Model," and Picatinny attachments are available for the RS mounts also.

Troy bottom rail, yay or nay?

I mainly just need more forward grip space over the standard grips, but might as well have some room for goodies if i buy a larger one

I need that top cover, preferably one of the older side rails with sharper corners but those are a bitch and a half to find, I already have sets of AK74M furniture from nearly every generation so I have that covered, the gas block needs to be changed out for an older one. I think that's it

Did your chink gun come with that furniture or did you have to get it later?
>>
I lost my job a few months back and now I'm back to working to pay the rent and can't afford to keep spending thousands every few months on gun stuff.

Thing is, I really really want a little AKS74u clone (just want to SBR an SLR104UR) but I can't afford to just straight up buy it. I'm thinking of selling my FAL (STG58 kit I built) to fund it, but I'm on the fence about it. I've already got two other 5.45 rifles so mags and ammo aren't a problem as I already have a bunch of each, and I really don't shoot my FAL much anymore. It isn't as fun to shoot as 5.45 and it's definitely more expensive to feed as I don't reload. I love the gun, I love the feel of the gun, I just don't particularly love shooting it.

What do you guys think? Would it be worth it selling a rifle I don't really shoot much for another 5.45 gun? For those of you with Krinks, how fun are they to shoot from 1 to holy balls this is fun?

Just follow your heart anon, if you feel you'll regret it down the road don't do it, but if you feel you could spare the rifle and not be bugged by it down the road then go for it.

I'm just warning you, the 104URs are a serious money pit. The gun is expensive as it is, then $200 for the tax stamp. Then you either have to pay to have the barrel cut down or buy the tools. Then you'll need to buy the muzzle device. Are you really happy with the black plastic furniture or will you want to replace it? Will you file it individually or will you buy a trust?
>>
>>32126965
ive never fired an FAL before but i have however fired Chimps krink at a meetup in NC. The krink was one of those guns ive always dreamed of owning and i was not at all disappointed when he let me run his. It was everything i thought it would be, ive since acquired a 5.45 rifle although not a krink i do hope to get one some time down the road after college and i also enjoy shooting the smaller calibers. If it was me, id do it because i have zero interest in FAL's but admittedly i am biased.

Yeah it'll take some funds to get it all going, but I've already got mags, ammo, a 4.5mm triangle folder that was taken off of one of my SLRs, and a Russian booster (I like to collect Russian muzzle brakes, moreso before when I could afford it). Really the only things I'd need to pay for outside of the rifle are the stamp, someone to SBR it, and some wood. It will be my first step into NFA so that will be its own deal, but at most I figure if need to spend around $2000-$2200 all together for everything that I need and i figure I could get around $1500 for my FAL and then an additional $500 or so for what mags and ammo I have left with it. I just need to decide if I want to sell.

I really want a 5.45 AK. I have never owned an AK before, although I have messed around with them a couple times. Needless to say, I don't know all the ins and outs of what I should be looking for.

I am planning on immediately switching the stock out for a Zhukov and likewise swapping the upper and lower handguards with a Cheese Grater and a Zhukov handguard, so basically, furniture and a rear trunnion are not a concern.

With all that in mind, I'm strongly eyeing the possibility of just picking up a VEPR with a slant cut receiver. Is this a good idea or is there a more solid performing receiver that I should be looking at?

Does anyone here dump their ammo into a pouch like this when going to the range?

https://www.amazon.com/CISNO-Military-Tactical-Magazine-Reloader/dp/B00OCFJF0A/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1480258397&sr=8-9&keywords=dump+pouch

I don't want to lug around a lot of shit to my range so ammo cans and lots of loaded magazines are out. I just want something I can stick in my Midway range bag.
>>
>>32132308
Why not just keep it in the boxes or the paper wrappers? If I have loose ammo I just put it in a ziplock
>>
>>32132504

Because its a waste of time at the range to unwrap and dump out the ammo, not to mention all the trash. I would rather just empty the boxes at home into a container and just load from that. I was looking at the G-code Bang Box but at $30+shipping for a glorified tupperware container that is just absurd.

This looks promising, but a little large:

I'd say that's quite an impressive weight. I mean it sucks that the optic is over 2lb; I think I might be inclined to leave the optic alone in exchange for 2 extra mags, but this is still quite nice.

>Remove PO scope, exchanged for 2 more magazines
19lb (8.7kg, perhaps? 270 rounds in total, plus bayonet. Bueno.)

500m effective range. 800m for area targets. Diehard reliable, minimal recoil impulse, ammo will tumble reliably at just about any velocity, 7N6 penetrates better than M193 and 7N10 penetrates better than M855... fucking sexy.

I would bet on one of 3 things: 1) bolt improperly placed, 2) front gas block not seated all the way causing the piston to get stuck, 3) Ivan was drunk in the factory that day and left you some presents inside the receiver. 3 happened to me with a Saiga.

I don't much see the point in red dots. I'd sooner just stick to irons.

>>32132950
There's definitely quite a huge difference in weight. What's the advantages/disadvantages of having the 4x17? 4x is getting pretty strong though. If I'm going to be stuck with just one level of magnification and can't access the irons at the same time, I'd rather stay at 3.5x or less. If the irons are available underneath however, then whatever magnification is fine.

This is the internet. People are still debating over 9mm vs .45, whether the M1911 design is outdated or not, and if the Moon landing happened. How is it that the US is STILL unable to turn out a decent AK?

Here's how to succeed: make an exact clone of the Bulgarian SLR rifles. Use forged parts and a CHF CL barrel and don't fuck up the builds. Done. Enjoy your reign as king of the domestic AK market.
>>
>>32135634
Honestly seeing your rifle made me look up what it was and fall in love with it, hence me getting one. I also got into AKs a bit too late. As of now I have a 104fr, 104ur with stamp pending, and a SAM7SF which was my first back in April. Kinda wish I had just gotten a 107fr instead when they were still a grand
>>
>>32135749
PSA AKs are fine.
>>
>>32135749

Because U.S companies produce low quality ak's on purpose to turn a profit, this new extractor was from a different source and it broke too, this is tell tale that DDI is choosing to use low quality specs for their parts.

It's that or multiple metal component makers can't make a small piece of metal of certain hardness and quality, doubt it, DDI is ordering low quality parts for their shitty guns.
>>
>>32135649

>>32135659
I still think wood and bakelite/plum and triangle has more charm, but the black polymer with smooth top cover just looks so sleek and modern and has more mystique to it for lack of a better word.

I almost bought another this black friday specifically to beat the shit out of my old one and keep the new one nice and shiny, just to have one BFPU kind of look with one and the other back to plum and triangle. I get sick of swapping furniture when I want the other look back.

The stock angle doesn't bug me and neither does the improper barrel components or any of that Bulgarian differences/AKS74 holdover stuff, but I can't tell you how many times I've passed up SGLs when they were available. There were at least two instances when I was a click away from buying a 31-94 from KVAR but didn't want to commit to 5.45 at the time.

>>32135752
I got into 5.45 only a month or two before the 7n6 ban, and even then in hindsight it was pretty much too late. I grew up shooting 7.62x39 rifles but I never got autistic about AKs until I got into 5.45.

I really REALLY want a 104ur but I just can't afford everything going into it right now.

>>32135785
I got mine for a decent deal. I had a lightly used Colt 1911 I had been trying to get rid of, so I traded that and $600 for a 104ur that only had one mag run through it. It came with a Bulgarian ribbed triangle, a chromed Russian booster and flawless laminate handguards. I could've gotten a better deal probably but I also got it the day before the election. Seeing that new one on the files for 1100 plus shipping hurt a little bit haha
>>
>>32135828

>>
>>32135969
No I'm just saying that Arsenal already has all the casting, stamping, forging, milling, and finishing (lol) equipment. In house. Any US company is probably going to have to outsource a lot of that and it drives the price up. If they purchase the equipment then the price will reflect that as well.
