Aside the mines and coastal defenses, torpedo boats could be spammed, which would have fucked up everything. British advantage was in open water and they knew it.

Torpedo boats and coastal artillery positions. It might have worked, but it would have been all or nothing. The blockade had devastating effects on Germany with far less risk required.

...Yes, yes they can. German naval bases and defenses were thick from Denmark to the Netherlands. The British couldn't get into the Baltic because it would have violated Danish neutrality. The German coast on the Atlantic was not at all too big to defend, to say nothing of THE ENTIRE HIGH SEAS FLEET just begging for the British to wander into gun range.

The British navy couldn't even force the Bosporus at it's weakest and the Germans just kept improving defenses everywhere as the war went on.

The British fleet was not wasted, insomuch as it completely removed Germany's ability to lay to sea and fight, as Mahanian Theory dictated would be necessary for a global war. As such, British supply lines were only troubled by u-boats and occasional zeppelins, while the German ones were completely severed.

The meme that Jellicoe lost or somehow failed to uphold British honor at sea is just that, a meme. He had the German navy be the ball it rendered it utterly useless- which itself damaged German pride and made their investment a complete waste, and eventually led to the Sailor's Mutiny when the leaders finally tried to use them.

The fleet wasn't a waste. Keeping the Germans holed up meant keeping trade routes secure, which was far more important to Britain than accelerating the downfall of Germany.

Britain as an empire was entirely reliant upon controlling the worlds oceans. Provoking the Germans, and potentially giving them enough of an edge to challenge the RN in earnest was literally risking the entire empire.

How do you protect your shipping and trade without a navy?

Germany in WW1 was far from resource independent, they needed to import tons of shit during peacetime to keep the economy running. It also needed to guard it's overseas colonies in Africa, the Pacific, and China.

Without a blue water navy, you have no response if another country decided to interdict your trade.
