Finally made up my mind. Local gun shop is selling a Marlin 1895 for $600

Should I?
I've always wanted a lever action chambered in 45-70
>>
Hell yeah. Not bad price. I absolutely love my SBL. The 45-70 is an awesome round, I suggest you get HSM cowboy ammo to build up a stock of Starline brass to reload with. You might not like the buckhorn sights that the GBL comes with, but there's tons of aftermarket sights that work awesome (like Skinner sights)

Sorry OP, im only going to derail slightly.
I really want to get a lever action, since I haven't had one since I was a kid. Any suggestions on caliber/model? I was thinking 45-70 or .444 marlin, but im not too picky. I'd like to get rifle for under $1000 and not pay out the nose for ammo.

I have a couple friends that swear by the 30-30
A bunch of my dad's friends say that it was the first gun they learned to shoot on
>>
>>32097779
I like my Henry .22
>>
>>32097642
Have you actually shot a 45-70?
I shot a marling guide gun chambered in 45-70 and it was an involved experience.
It make a mosin feel like a .223.

Nice guns btw.

Yea actually. My dad's friend brought one to shoot at the side of our hill back when I was 13. Wanted one of my own ever since

Then you know what you are in for.
I wish i had gotten one when Walmart was ditching them cheap.

I'm planning on buying a marlin 336. Really like the looks of the 336ss. It comes in 30-30 or .35 rem. I hear .35 rem packs quite the bunch but 30-30 is so cheap in comparison. What do /k/?
>>
>>32098030
Ive never owned one before. I just shot one once way back when. Wondered if there were better models for the money.
>>

My dad gave me his old henry, that guns pretty slick. But I'm looking more into full size rifle calibers, i have enough plinkers to field a small child army at this point.
>>32097883
30-30 was our go to round for innabrush hunting wild hogs back home.
>>
>>32098032
I have the 30-30 and it's a great firearm, I've made at least 2 people buy one. You won't notice the slightly more punchy .35 rem after 100 shots, you will notice the cheaper ammo.

Get it.

Everytime i carry my 1895 cba i feel like if shit were to happen i could kill anything. Robots, dinosaurs, tanks. I would kill them all with it.

30-30 is a great round within its limitations.

I have a 336 and a 94. The 336 was dad's hunting gun forever and it's just all around better than the 94. Get one, especially an older one.

The 1895 is a great choice too. 45-70 is one of my favorite cartridges. Just bear in mind sometimes "microgroove" rifling that marlin uses can be love or hate with lead bullets. I've only ever had good luck but some people state they can't make them shoot with lead.

I fucking love mine. Puts some hair on your chest and its a good intro to reloading. If its in really good condition I would get it. I paid $425 for mine from a family friend. It had a tiny bit of surface rust that came off with an oil rag. I love in Alaska you can find a $500 one in good condition pop up on alaska list or armslist every week.

Stay cool, /k/.
