Sorry about the inverted pics. Camera fucks up. I noticed theres some emblem on it that looks like an imperial eagle
>>
It's a Ruger Super Blackhawk, prolly in .44 mag. I don't know how valuable it is, but it's indestructible. And you can shoot .44 Specials through it for low-recoil fun.
>>
>>32086791
Ruger Blackhawk single action revolver. Lots of fun, very accurate, very durable. Good woods gun. Yours seems to have a lot of finish wear, probably seen a lot of use. You will have fun with it I'm sure.

In that condition it would go for about $400 in a store. But, don't sell it.
>>
>>32086791

Ruger Blackhawk, not a particularly old one as the Ruger emblem is black, not red (The emblem is the maker's symbol- the brand is Ruger. The eagles were red before the head honcho died and black after). Can't tell the cartridge from your picture but it's a high chance it's 357, 45 colt, or 44 mag.

Popular guns and well liked. The best value for a single action revolver on the market, they have a large aftermarket and following. They are accurate and reliable.

Given the poor condition of yours and how common they are in general, you have maybe a $350-$450 gun (mostly that low because of how beat up it is).

Shoot it and enjoy it; it's not a collector's gun, just a good shooter.
>>
>>32086843

What do you mean by indestructible?

>>32086846
>>32086850

Oh I've no intention of selling it, but its always good to know the value of things.

The emblem isnt black btw, the eagle itself is silver and the background seems to be worn out. Cylinder feels very greasy so I guess my grandpa took care of it.

He also left me some other guns. No fancy boxes or anything, just a very heavy camo wrap around the stack of them. Will try to check them out soon to get some help identifying them
>>

>What do you mean by indestructible?
It's hard to break. Are you fucking 12? 4chan is a n 18+ website.
>>
>>32086921

hilariously overbuilt.

there is a reason most reloading manuals list "ruger only" loads. you can load these things to near thermonuclear levels.
>>
>>32086921
Rugers are rather famous for being able to handle overpressure loads that would grenade any other revolver. They're widely used among the big-bore wildcatters like John Linebaugh because of their strength.

Make sure it's empty, cock it, and take a pic where the hammer meets the frame. If it's got a little metal bar there it's either a post-'86 or a factory-converted gun. If there's no little metal bar there it's a pre-'86. The metal bar is called the transfer bar, and is theoretically safer (can carry with all chambers loaded), but its installation ruined one of the best trigger pulls ever in a pistol. Pre-'86 Rugers are quite a bit more valuable than post-'86 Rugers.

No man I just figured a lot of guns were very sturdy

>>32086968

You mean there? Looks like a metal bar, Damn I was hoping it would be older. The trigger feels very soft, well lubricated.
>>
>>32086791
Aw, that's a sweet one. It's not super valuable, but be happy it's not some lame shit. It's a free gun.

I just noticed it has a number engraved in the side, im guessing its the serial. Can i guess when it wss made from that? Serial starts with 83-75

The other side reads this
>>
>>32087063
Yep, that's a transfer bar.

It could well be older, Ruger did a voluntary recall of all pre-'86 SBH's. Turn-over rate was low (fewer than 20,000 out of hundreds of thousands made and sold) but it's not too uncommon to run across an older one with the refit.

Yes.

Very clearly says "new model" on the side so it's a post-'86, so use the second link.

Nice grab op - mad jelly!
>tfw no gun-loving, gun-giving grandpa
>>
>>32087163
...or I guess I was wrong on when the change-over occurred.

Yours was made in 1980, yet is the new style with the transfer bar.

Fuck me and my memory.
>>
>>32087163
>>32087176

Yeah and I just checked that site and the serial isnt there so Im guessing its older thn their electronic records. Is the transfer bar thing that bad?
>>
Im not op but with what you guys just said about the gun withstanding higher loads does that means its stronger than the original S&W .44 magnum?

What would happen t a person who gets shot with it?
>>
>>32087240
It's a serial range. Jan 1 1980 saw serial number 83-41251 and the year ended on 83-90985, meaning yours with 83-75something was produced probably around October of 1980.

They produced hundreds of thousands of SBH's, they don't list each individual serial number.
>>
>>32087332
They would have a very bad day.
>>
>>32087332
A hotter load will have more velocity.
A faster bullet hits harder.
>>
>>32087332
The frame is stronger than the original S&W, but it still fires .44 S&W Magnum. It *can* handle stouter, beyond-spec loads (like your mom) but that doesn't change what it will do to a person, and it's not a different caliber or chambering.
>what would happen to a person who gets shot with it?
Pretty much exactly the same as what would happen to a person shot with a .44 S&W Magnum produced by anybody else.
>>
>>32087332
>What would happen t a person who gets shot with it?

It would put a hole in them, and probably ruin their day.
>>
>>32087240
The transfer bar is safer than models without it.
It's better to have one than to not.
Your gun should be safe to shoot.
Have fun with it
>>
>>32087372

It wouldnt just put a whole, it will blow that entire area off. Im pretty sure that if you get hit in the arm with it, its gonna be cut off clean
>>
>>32087240
>is the transfer bar thing that bad?
It's a safety feature. It makes the gun safer if you want to use all 6 chambers, at the cost of making the trigger pull worse.

It is an undesirable feature from some (niche) points of view but was generally well accepted, and generally a net benefit to the gun.

Basically anybody that isn't a silhouette or cowboy action shooter probably wouldn't notice the difference.

>>
>>32087407
And let's be real, the SBH trigger is fucking phenomenal even despite the bar.
>>
>>32087392
noguns pls.
>>
>>32086791

Ok OP you already know which gun is it. But I'd like to point out something no one else has told you so far: this is NOT a self defense gun. Its obviously not adviseable to carry one because of how massive it is. Maybe only as a deterrent.

Sure the sound of the round alone will probably make anyone run miles away from you if you shoot it. But if you miss the 1st shot or if youre against more than 1 attacker, you're gonna have a bad day. It has 5 rounds, and as you may have noticed the cylinder doesnt comes off, so youre meant to manually extract each cartridge and load them one by one. The recoil is also MASSIVE and I mean massive as in if you shoot it 1 handed you will probably fracture your wrist.

Very nice gun op, just keep in mind what its meant for.
>>
>>32087176
The introduction of the transfer bar came in 1973. You can always tell an "Old Model" Blackhawk by the three screws. If it has only two pins like this it automatically has the transfer bar.
>>
>>32087469

Despite the obvious exaggeration, a .44 is more than enough to kill anyone that moves
>>
>>32086791
Powerful as fuck
Sturdy as fuck
Will never jam

yeah it's a great gun OP
>>
>>32087611

Ive always been scared about revolvers since I heard that the Colt Python cylinder would get misaligned all the time and blow people's hands off
>>
>>32087649
Don't buy a Colt then?

Congratulations OP, you have a Ruger Super Blackhawk much akin to mine.

Enjoy shooting it because it's a fucking blast.
>>
>>32087959

how well do those grips mitigate the stupid fucking dragoon trigger guard?

thats pretty much the only thing preventing me from buying a SBH,
>>
>>32087990
They cover the ass end of the trigger guard pretty completely. I don't feel anything in my middle finger when I shoot. Most of the shock is going into my palms.

They're what was on the gun when I picked it up. It's a used gun, maybe late 70's. I've not changed anything on it because I've not felt a need to if that's any indication. Though I don't have a lot of rounds through it. .44 ain't cheap that's for sure.
>>
>>32087649
That's because the Python was a relatively small framed revolver and not strong enough to handle constant .357s, so it would go out of time if you shot it enough. Same thing would happen with K-Frame S&W revolvers chambered in .357.
