How good is the Ka-bar? How does it compare to alternative field knives like the puukko and Cold Steel knives?
>>
>>32078879
ka-bar a crazy, tang no full. Is sort of okay but too big for polite around hippies in a wood.
>>
>>32078890
What is your first language?
>>
>>32078879
The ones I was issued as an 0311 were rusty, dull, Vietnam era. Couldn't cut open an MRE bag.

If we attached as bayonet, could stab tho.

So tell me? I would never buy one. I only comment because I carried one.

4" bushcraft is better.
It looks gentlemanly.
A ka-bar makes you look like some crazed low brow hill jack with the possible sole exception of pairing it with a Marine hat or something.
Are you a muhreen?
>>
>>32078947
I am not a muhreen, just a fellow looking for a good field knife.
>>
>>32078968
Any of a plethora of knives of this basic pattern is truly the best choice.

I was/am a Marine. Who gives a shit. Get a better knife.
>>
>>32078879
Buck Knives are better in every way.
>>
>>32079012
Yeah, I totally agree. Get a better knife. What I'm saying is the only way to carry a ka-bar and not look like a completely autistic and backwards corn field wandering around in small town or wannabe operator is to be wearing it because you were actually in the Marines and you're proud of your service time. As in if I see some obviously ex-military old fudd in a Marine's hat and he's hiking with a ka-bar on his belt, I'm not necessarily going to think less of him like I would some pudgy faced city boy with a paracord bracelet. That's right, I judge people.
Even then, you should probably just get a better knife.
>>
>>32079071
I'm proud of being an Infantry Marine. Until I die.

That doesn't mean I have to talk you into buying a stupid knife. I wouldn't.
>>
>>32079128
You've talked me into it. I'll get the ka-bar I guess.
>>
>>32079184
God damnit anon. I said NO.
>>
>>32078879
The Kabar only has a partial tang, and the quality control isn't the best in recent models (read Amazon reviews, and try to get an older one). That said, it has served many muhreens and infantry very well.

If you want higher quality, I'd go with the Cold Steel SRK. That's the knife I use.
>>
>>32078879
I have one
Its pretty good for the only fixed blade I've ever purchased
I pretty much use it for camping and just as a hint expect the Teflon to wear away ugly and the hand guard bends like fuck
I kinda regret getting the rubber handle for aesthetic reasons.
>>
>>32078879
If you can get them cheap they are good knives, I paid about 25$ for mine and I feel like that was worth it for what it was. That said for the full price you could do a lot better for the money.
>>
>>32078879
KA-BAR knives are great value, and good for most anything.

Good quality steel, a design functional for combat, extremely hard use utility, and survival.

if you are using it specifically for bushcraft and NOT batoning, I would get something else, purely for comfort reasons.

Always prefer using a smaller knife for bushcraft (SOG SEAL pup atm) and a larger knife like the KA-BAR for batoning (or a hatchet)

>>32078890
>ka-bar a crazy, tang no full. Is sort of okay but too big for polite around hippies in a wood.

But KA-BAR are full tang, with a tang stamped pommel.

But you're right about them not being low-profile.
FYI; the serrated KA-BAR is underrated, and it still leaves you plenty of belly for everything.
>>
>>32079617
Ka-Bars are NOT full tang. Look it up.
>>
>>32079671
And by this I mean it is not a full-exposed tang. While it runs far back through the grip, it is essentially a rat-tail tang.
>>
>>32079128
You're definitely a stupid ass marine. Trying to argue with some random dude that is essentially agreeing with you %100. Fucking hated working with you daft cunts.
>>
>>32078879
Becker B7 or the rat-7 are both better knives. Way better.

KA-BAR BK3, is it any good?
>>
>>32079704
It's a hidden/stick tang, not a rat tail tang.
>>
>>32079704
I guess you could argue it's a rat tail. But it is a full tang in the technical sense.
It's based off an earlier marble design. Balanced for throwing and hasn't changed in what, a quarter century? Don't know about current quality, but has been a standard for years. It's a good knife, but a bit high price. There are cheaper and arguably better options out there.
I think they're aesthetic as fuck.
>>
>>32078911
You were never an 0311
You were never issued a ka-bar
Marine corps does not issue Ka-bars
You were issued an m7 bayonet or at best an okc-3s bayonet.
Were you an 0311 all that would be secondhand knowledge to you you nasty shower shoe.
>>
>>32080109
I'm not sure you really understand exactly what a full tang is.
>>
>>32079205
You're right I do need another Ka-bar. Maybe the Tanto one with a serrated blade?

Trash friend, spend that money on a Chris Reeve sebenza instead.
>>
>>32078879
Honestly? They're more of a cool conversation starter than a usable knife. They're a confused design, they have a fairly thick blade with a wide bevel giving them a tough edge, like a chopper. But their tang design makes them unsuitable for hard use and they are balenced towards the hilt meaning you cant swing them effectively anyway. They would be much better knives if they were hollow ground or flat ground.

They will do everything you want them to do, but a simple bushcraft style knife will do everything much better
>>
>>32080235
No. Get yourself checked.
>>
>>32080349
I have great disdain for calling things memes but for that thing I'll make an exception.
>>
>>32079956
I just ordered the 7, 9 and campanion for my christmas gift to myself
>>
>>32080248
The tang does go all the way to the bottom of the handle. The tang is the bit of metal that isn't blade. That bit of metal is the length of the handle on a kabar. Thusly, a kabar is a full tang knife, not a half tang.
>>
>>32082172
Most people would call that a through tang design. To diferentiate it from one which is the full tang with slabs stuck to the sides
>>
>>32080734
check these dubs faggot.
>>
>>32084000
Haha. Trips.

You're still wrong.
>>
>>32082172
This, there are two main categories for tangs, full tang and partial. Everything else is a subcategory

Full tang means the tang runs the full length of the handle, partial tangs will stop somewhere before the pommel
>>
>>32080734
You werent issued a fucking kabar
>>
>>32078879
They're a meme, they look cool but they're not even full tang. Goes right in the trash.
>>
>>32087238
Yes I was. Seriously, not lying.
