I'm assuming they're the Hornady Spire Point. If so they're pretty good.

I have m193s in my magazines.

Will second the 55 grain soft point, the m193 would be good enough at home defense ranges out of a 16 inch though and cheap as well.

Stay away from m855 unless you live out in the sticks. The intermediate barrier penetration is just fine for other situations but not home defense and m193 is more effective if you aren't shooting through windshields.

The 55gr softpoint will offer the best intermediate barrier penetration (including car windshields) of the 4, and the best likelihood of 1-shot incapacitation (good wound channel, excellent bone penetration).

All 4 rounds will penetrate enough walls (4 full walls) that overpenetration is irrelevant.

M193 would be my second choice until you tell us which brand the 50gr hollowpoint is (some of the hollowpoints are actually pretty good manstoppers and meet FBI penetration req's), and M855 is dogshit across the board.

Any 5.56 will exit the home in any direction it is fired if the house is made out of dry wall. 5.56 by it's very nature is too much penetration for a home filled with family members. If you live close to your neighbors, it's probably going inside their home, too. Handgun ammo has been known to do the same, so why wouldn't a rifle?

I have a Benelli M2 loaded with #1 shot. It'll kill someone dead, it's probably still go through some walls, I just gotta make sure I'm not aiming in my kids' general direction. I wouldn't WANT to use a rifle simply because I live close to my neighbors and I know the rounds will travel quite a distance.

I wouldn't worry about it, and the slightly reduced energy transfer you get from not using soft/hollow points is negligible. 5.56 is going to kill someone, much less 30 rounds of it.

I used m193 until i went into an abandoned house on my new property and shot it through a wall closet from 6 feet away. Once it went through the wall it tumbled and hit the wall 4 inches to the left running at a 90 degree angle from the wall i shot at. Then traveled along that wall for 5 feet and bounced off the wall running 90 degrees off that second wall.

Imagine a capital E without the middle bar and i shot through the bottom bar.

I have switched to soft point since i dont want a round that will zip all over the place after a penetration
