Best weapon for urban insurgent sniper?

Criteria
>Lethal to 500 Meters with full power loads
>1.5 MOA
>Subsonic factory loadings available
>Suppressor friendly
>Semi compact, foldable stock/quick takedown, easily concealed, short enough to be manipulated and fired from a vehicle
>>
not really compact but you can get a remington 700 16.5 threaded barrel if you want something ready out of the box for not too much money. you could always throw it into a folding stock chassis but that's going to cost just as much as the rest of the gun if not more

I wouldn't trust 5.45 to 500 unless it was 77gr OTM. All the special snowflake cartridges I'm not a fan of either. .300 blk is the most viable but I wouldn't trust it to 500

5.56 can kill a man at 500 meters but if you insist on something with more energy at that range your best bet is an ar-10

So it's what you'd expect from an average rifle unsuitable for work as a sniper's firearm.
>>
>>32069749
>sniper's firearm.
>only needs to be accurate to 500 meters
Pick one. 1.5 moa is less than an 8 inch spread from 500 meters. Plenty good enough. Besides, with some fine tuning you can make nearly any new production rifle suitable for "snipers work"
>>
Scout rifles seem to be what you're chasing. I have a Ruger Gunsite and swear by it

For reference, a compact weapon can be more useful than a superior sniping weapon.

Presumably you're targeting soldiers in body armor, and using shoot and scoot not engaging in firefights. A 5.56 rifle isn't ideal for that, and most of the disadvantages of using a battle rifle are not relevant.

This stupid meme has to end. Even cheap Remington 700 is a 1moa gun out of the box with good factory ammo. Without even trying. With aftermarket chassis and a reload - its easily, and I mean easily .5 MOA or better. Pic very much related.
>>
>>32069795
After Remington's acquisition by the Freedom Group, their QC was the first thing to be cut in the pursuit of production cost reductions.

They're charging a shitload of money for a rifle that rusts, that is not headspaced correctly, that has fitment issues and cycles like a Mosin.

Buy a Savage. Buy a Tikka. Buy a Sako. Buy a Howa. Buy a Winchester.

As it happens, I am a certified Remington 870 armorer. Yep. How's that for a coincidence. 870 Express is shit - you get exactly what you pay for. But it will still work longer than an average American user will live. Wingmaster and Police models are well made.

This, OP, is the Steyr SSG69
It's basically a remington 700 With no quality issues
>308 so it can shoot up to 700, or 800 if you stretch it
>SubMOA
>Barrel can be threaded for suppressor and 308 is a good suppressed round

However, if you want a semi,foldable/easily concealed SNIPER rifle then you're out of luck

Because there are no cheap covert sniper rifles (they are also rare, i think Desert Arms SRS is the only one that makes covert snipers but they are pricey as fuck)

So your best balanced bet is the AR10

Semi-Auto .308 would be the best in that scenario. See: CSASS program, SCAR, and MCX in .308.

Subsonic 300 BLK wouldn't be effective past 150 m.

If you really really want I can show you where they applied finishes *over* rust at the factory.

Well, congrats on getting one of the not-shit ones.

By contrast I bought an R700 Sendero. It was totally fucked from the factory.
>excessive headspace
>bore looked like it was rifled with rebar (bear in mind this is their "premium" 5R barrel)
>action screws were drilled off-center, at an angle, preventing the ability to pillar-bed
>crown looked like it was freehanded with a cordless drill and a ball end mill, not the recessed 10* target crown it was advertized as having.
It was, at best, a 5-6 MOA rifle from the factory. This, their $1200 "most accurate rifle sold over-the-counter" rifle designed for long-range hunting. And I'm sure if it hadn't been stainless it would've rusted too.

I used it as a project gun in gunsmithing school (MCC) and was able to fix everything but the action screws, and it's a quarter-MOA gun now. But I basically had to completely rebuild the rifle
>set back and rechamber
>blueprint and true action
>recrown
>re-drill, re-tap scope base holes in non-R700 pattern (redid it for Savage 110 rail)
And a few other QoL improvements unrelated to how fucked the rifle was
>>
>>32069830
What about the higher end models targeted to professional users? Any better there?
>>
>>32070456
Sure, theyll pull just under 1 moa with match ammo until the barrel heats up in not too many rounds. Not that theres a huge difference between 1 and 1.5 moa when shooting out to 500 meters.
>>
>>32070874
Yes, generally. The 700 Police gets a lot of extra attention at the factory, and comes factory Cerakoted instead of [whatever crappy finish the rest do].

And the 700 and 7 AAC's are completely redone by AAC, and aren't really a Remington rifle any more.
>>
>>32070901
It's a sporter barrel, no fucking shit.

Same shit happens with your precious [insert whatever brand you like] with a sporter barrel, it's a factor of the barrel profile and not the quality of the rifle.
>>
>>32070910
Thats the point, dipshit. Theyre not really 1 moa if you can only put 10 rounds through before the group opens up.
>>
>>32069586
You're not looking for a gun, you're looking for a book.

>>
>>32070925
nigger you're fucking retarded.

>>
>>32069667
5.56 has less energy at 500 yards than the 9mm's muzzle energy, meaning someone wearing level II armor will survive easily if hit in center mass.

Anything less than .308 won't cut it for this fantasy scenario.

>>
>>32070945

>>
>>32069702

No, there's a lot of people on the interwebs that don't actually know how to measure MOA, mislead by only speaking of their best groups, or flat out lie. I can't tell you how many people I've found who lie in person as well.
>>
>>32069702
1.5 MOA is a 7.5 in group at 500 yards, so perfectly fine for hitting a man sized center of mass which is 20 in across.

Depends on what you're paying for it though. You can easily get a sub-MOA bolt action for $500.
>>
>>32071118
>energy is an ineffective way of looking at terminal ballistics

Obviously not the only factor, but energy is the biggest factor. Your wound channel will depend mostly on how much energy is delivered and something with not enough energy to either expand or fragment will do relatively little damage to a target
>>
>>32071180

No, it's a term with definite meaning(s). The meaning does differ depending on where you are. In most of the world it's any sharpshooter equipped to reach out farther than typical infantry rifles, and in the USA it's a sharpshooter that fires from concealment, regardless of range.
