On a wild turkey, .223 or .38 special should be enough to put it down. Slugs are way overkill, there are shotshell loads developed especially for turkeys.

For a domestic turkey, all I can tell you is that you need something stronger than an aluminum bat. Those sons of bitches are nasty.

Domestic turkeys are bred to be fat only with no concern for intelligence hence how we get dumb ass birds.
