>browning automatic rifle was obsolete by ww2
>mg34 was superior to it in every aspect
>lol 20 round magazine
>no belt fed action
>slow rate of fire because MUH ACCURACY in a fucking suppression weapon
why was the inter-war US military so hesitant to adopt new belt fed designs?
>>32064639
Same reason it didn't adopt a better cartridge
Already had shitloads of it, may as well put it to use
>>32064639
Because US infantry doctrine was based around individual marksmanship.
>>32064639
because you wont stop touching yourself
No sitty shooty
Movey bang bang gooder
>>32064677
US infantry doctrine was based around having the best artillery and air support in the war and a tank battalion attached to every infantry division.
>>32064645
>>32064677
These, plus abysmal funding.
>>32064639
Auto 30-06?
How could that possibly be a bad thing?
Plus muh J. Moses Browning
>>32064677
This is false.

Because the US doctrine places emphasis on maneuver at the section (squad) level, while Platoons and Companies acted as suppression elements, having their own organic Machine guns and Mortars.
The BAR acted as a base of fire which was able to suppress or engage with the rifleman. If needed it could act as the fire element of the squad while the rest acted as maneuver.
the only country to field an effective modern GPMG in WWII was the Germans with the MG34 and 42. This had its advantages and they became immediately apparent, which is why IARs/Machine Rifles fall to the wayside of the GPMG.

>another unwieldy piece of shit
>>32064639
Comparing an automatic rifle to a medium machine gun is retarded and you know it.
It's too the US ruined the BAR by making it 20 pounds. Something like the Colt Monitor would've been way better.
>>32064639
We had water cooled and air cooled .30 cals
Ask the fucking bongs why they went to war with only bolt guns, magazine fed 30 lb rifles, watercooled vickers, and revolvers
>>32065339
So cutting down a BAR to make it lighter? No way.
>>32064639
>Trump will never get rid of the NFA and make it legal to purchase old U.S. surplus weapons
>Will never get my very own fully automatic B.A.R.
>>32064835
>which is why IARs/Machine Rifles fall to the wayside of the GPMG.
Wrong.
