On reloads, watch out on pushing the cast lead bullets (non-gas checked) too fast, or the thin jacketed ones. Buy HSM cowboy ammo; they use Starline brass and you can 'cheaply' build up a brass stock.

I figure I'll end up experimenting with more exotic shit and sticking to vanilla loads with classic bullet types.

You eventually should try the 700gr bullets just for shits and giggles. Watch the left thumb as you're holding it, it may get hit by the cylinder thingy on the frame during recoil.

Have you fired a 500 before? Seems dumb to buy it and find out you don't like it but whatever.
