What are the allure of these rounds?

>more expensive than factory M193/55gr .223 ball
>can't use at indoor ranges
>inferior ballistics and wounding potential against unarmored targets
>>
Slightly better against barriers.
>>
>>32061975
I'm:
>not poor
>have land to shoot on
>same as any other ball round
>matches BDC on my ACOG
>>
>>32062013

No.

M193 out of a 20" barrel is far superior. It can actually penetrate steel plates whereas m855 cannot, even out of the same barrel.
>>
>>32062051
Doesn't 62gr FMJBT shoot better than M855?

besides a slight increase in accuracy (arguing accuracy in a AK haha) it offers nothing 7.62 does better.

>this just in: All barriers ever are hardened steel plates

M855 does better against all the common intermediate barriers (doors, walls, soft steel, aluminum, windshields) than M193, and outperforms M193 against hardened steel when both are fired from a 16" or less barrel as it's slightly less reliant on velocity to penetrate.

1. You're wrong
2. Bonded, acketed softpoints expand to at least 150% diameter down to around 1800fps, with some expanding down to 1500fps, while providing better barrier penetration with less deflection than ALL military loads (including all OTM's) and meeting FBI penetration requirements from a 10.3" barrel out to 730m.

Yes, in limited special roles. The AKMS is issued with the PBS-1 suppressor for special forces. The standard issued rifle remains the AK-74M.
>>32063283
Weak bait.
>>
>>32062726
In 1:7 barrels yes. 55gr is for 1:9. But you can shoot the 55 in a 1:7 and be accurate while shooting a 62gr in a 1:9 will cause the bullet to tumble as it isn't able to spin the bullet appropriately.

Op is an idiot. 62gr in 1:7, which milspec we'd are using, is superior to the 55gr.

I'm betting he is poor and mad about not being able to buy the 62gr. Not even trolling either.

It is true that M855 is a fairly useless round when compared to M193.

The only advantages I can think of are perceived better soft barrier penetration, and maybe the round staying intact through doors/windshields.

Hardly justifies its existence though.

pointless considering both rounds will land on a man sized target at there respective ranges, 300m for 7.62 and 400m for 5.45

>exceeding the effective range

using .21 caliber 5.45x39 at ranges 400 meters and beyond, if the already prone to deflection by brush, wind, and the environment projectile actually makes it to 400m undeflected, its already subsonic and has pathetic energy levels.

Nearly all the ranges by me not only allow rifles but they rent machine guns such as

Browning 1919
M60
M240B
M249 SAW
Lewis Gun
Vickers Beltfed

and of course the little ones like MP5, UZI, M16, M4 etc.

Only thing that sucks is the biggest indoor range is only 50 yards. If you want more than that you have to drive half an hour to the public outdoor range or the desert.

None of which actually matters to most people. Price and consistency are the only two things that matter to most civilians, and cheap brass is plenty consistent enough for their intended use.

I agree, if range ammo is what you want then but civilian ammo. However I want those characteristics just in case and I dont mind paying a few cents more per round for them.

Also another thing that doesn't matter at the range punching paper or pinging steel and I see nobody ever mention is ricochet wound potential as a benefit. The steel core of M855 bounces off of shit and can still wound or kill whereas standard lead just splats into a billion pieces at most angles. Ive bounced rounds off the ground and still punched the cores through mild steel before.

1/14. Original twist rate for XM16.
Dropped due to failure in Arctic trials to stabilize rounds.

1/12 M16-M16A1 CAR-15.
Twist rate for 55gr or less. WILL NOT stabilize 62gr ammo. Useless past 100M.
1/9. Used for rifles made to use both M193/M855. Anything past 65-70gr is a no-go.
1/7. M16A2-M16A4/M4.
Adopted because M193 sucks against barriers. SS109/M855/M856.
1/12 won't stabilize the 65gr tracer so it was dropped.
M855 was dropped, because fucking Army wanted EVERYONE to have 14.5 inch barrels.
BIG FUCKING SURPRISE, past 100 yards no frag. Especially, against skinny ass sand niggers.
