According to the SOG book I read, he ran more missions than anyone else had. Most guys who ran half as many as him were dead. Also, he slept in the quarters with the Nungs who were local indigenous people that worked with the Green Berets. He was a quiet guy that would come into the compound bar with a case of beer, open all of them, drink them one at a time quietly, then leave.

Where can I learn more about him? I tried googling his name but everything that comes up are the accounts of the combat assignment where he went MIA, possibly captured.

Thanks so much for this, i remember seeing a thread about this dude years ago and it was fucking epic. Never could remember the name though all this time.

Dude is definitely dead though, one of his fellows recalled him trying to lead some of his gook friends towards a treelike and getting a machinegun burst to the chest before falling and never being seen again. The dude had something like a $10,000 bounty on his head, he was such a badass that the enemy knew him by name and wanted him dead or alive.

I remember a story of how he got detained for a night on base, i think it was for striking an officer who was disrespecting his gook buddies but im not sure. Anyways, he is led to his cell and the jailer asks for Mad Dog's side arm, which he surrenders.

Morning comes, and his commanding officer shows up to have him released. The jailer gives the commanding officer Mad Dog's revolver, and the officer asks "well wheres the rest of it?". The jailer has no idea what hes talking about, so Mad Dog, still locked in his cell, produces something like 3 more revolvers, several hand grenades, and a knife.

Guy is fucking around having drinks and hes got all this shit stashed on him ready for war - if thats not fucking badass then idk what is.
