Anyone know of any poorfag optics with a POSP style reticle.
Bonus points for a variable zoom of 4x-8x or 3x-9x
>>
Stop buying junk and save up for items that are worthwhile or you are always and forever going to be a poorfag OP.

POSP on a weaver mount. Kalinkaoptics has them aplenty.

If you're too poorfag for kalinka, then don't bother with optics.

Do you guys have any recommendations for bolt action .308s less than 40" in overall length? I picked up a Chilean 1895 Mauser cavalry carbine from an estate sale that was rechambered in 61 to 7.62, but like a retard, I forgot to do the research ahead of time. It seems that a number of the Chilean conversions were spotty at best and that these shouldn't be fired with modern 7.62 loads, let alone commercial .308. Still, I like the idea of having a carbine bolt action in that caliber.

Pic related, said carbine. Excuse the mess.
>>
>>32060004
Go to Kalinka and search by reticle.
>>
>>32061632
did they tell you it was re-chambered or was there markings on it from back when it was done in 61'

i just bought a 1891 Mauser from a pawn shop and the thing was just too good to be true aside from the stock being slightly sporterized and missing the cleaning rod + endcap
if they rechambered it there was no way the pawn shop would have known, the dumbass at the counter thought it was in 8mm
>>
300 dollars is not poorfag
>>
>>32061686

On the top of the receiver, it's marked "1961 NATO." The shop where it was on consignment actually had the same issue, the sales guy and the smith all thought it was 7.62 but it was logged in the book as 8mm. So they pulled it off the shelf, did a chamber cast, and determined it was rechambered for 7.62.

870s are cool. People here hate new ones but its mostly unfounded echochamber. Mossberg 500s are also cool. Yugoslavian m48 mausers are cool milsurps for under 400, Mosins and Lee-Enfields can be found sub 400 also.

Planning to buy a gun safe in the next few weeks. My main concerns are basic fire protection and stopping your standard redguard smash and grab robbery. Is it worth my money to buy a Liberty Colonial 30 from a local dealer for $1,200 including digital lock and led lighting, or would I do just as well to buy a Cabela's or Academy tier safe for half the price? I understand that these are actually residential security containers and not true safes, but it's going to be hidden out of plain sight anyways and I figure if someone knows it's there and really wants in they will get in no matter how much I spend on one.

yes, it's very possible

contact your local shops and ask them their policies and prices

Hey /k/, I have an idea. I live in New York and I'm waiting on my pistol permit. I have an idea for a New York legal AR pistol, if I fix the magazine does this negate it from SAFE Act regulation? I know the SAFE Act applies to handguns that have "detachable magazines" but if I permanently attach the mag should I be good to go? I'd do a build from a stripped lower, and I know the permit clerk might be sketchy but are there any laws/regulations I'm forgetting?

the ejector in 10/22s in on the magazine
examine the feed lips (ejector is parts of the same piece as the feed lips) area for damage

also check if the mag sits awkwardly in the receiver or is loose

I've had two dogs from shelters, both mutts. I've had exceptional luck both times. They are usually eager to please, which makes them trainable. If you get an abuse victim you'll have a very protective dog if you can rebuild its confidence.

How often do you guys dry fire your guns? Do you use snap caps or no?

I've never used snap caps but i'm also not big on dry firing. However, I recently did some trigger mods to my USP9 and have been dryfiring a lot lately to get a feel for the new setup.

Some USPs have had cracked firing pins in the past, but those seem to be related to poor heat treating in earlier models and have happened even with snap caps.

There are tons of folks out there who have dry fired guns of all types 10s of thousands of times with no issue other than normal wear and tear.

Obviously if you dry fire a gun 10,000 times + wet fire it another 30,000 and the pin breaks, you can't really blame the gun, or the dry firing at that point.

I'm thinking that $20 per caliber for snap caps is not bad piece of mind insurance, but that in reality, for most modern guns, it doesn't make a difference.

I used snap caps a lot though, they are great training tools to jam up into weapons to simulate a malfunction, or to place randomly in a training magazine to force immediate action drills.
>>
>>32079396
Some use AA or AAA. At the very least you can get a push button light using them and put it in a clamp mount.

But by special snowflake, I assume you mean 123 batteries? They aren't really that rare or snowflake. I even have a few rechargeable ones to go with my solar charger- they drain kinda quick, but work.

I have the opportunity to pick up a 1944 Lee-Enfield for roughly $450. It's not numbers matching but the wood and metal finish, along with the bore, are all excellent. It looks like it was unwrapped, cleaned up, fired a bit, cleaned up again, and then put into a safe for years.

Should I?

I was shooting some pic related recently and it smells like sour dogshit. It's like a plastic-y, chemical type smell.

I've also noticed stinky bulk 9mm reloads that i've bought online before.

What gives? Did I give everyone at the range cancer?

I saw a video of a modified Vz.58 that when you reloaded it after it went dry, instead of pulling back the charging handle, the bolt stayed open and you inserted the magazine and pressed something near the trigger to snap the bolt closed again.

What kind of mechanism is that called and can I get it on other guns as well?

Piggybacking off the old post.

I've got the opportunity to buy a pre-Freedom Group Remington 600 sans the rear sight for a pretty decent price, but hunting down a replacement rear seems like it's gonna be a problem.

They make modern Remington 7s in an 18.5" barrel. I know the shotguns have issues, but is Freedom Group really that shit that the bolt actions are fucked too?

Today I stripped down my new Glock 19 and decided I was sick of the fucking squeaking sound it makes everytime I rack the slide. I know it's normal but it's really loud and hate it. I fixed it by locking the slide back and putting two small drops of oil on the recoil spring guide (one in the front one in the back). After racking the slide a few times it finally went away, thing is, the glock feels very "smooth" when I rack it, which is weird because I am used to them feeling kind of "gritty" if you know what I mean. Did I over-lube it? My friend has a Glock 34 that stovepipes every 15 rounds or so because he over-lubed it, so I'm kind of paranoid, but on the other hand I only put two tiny drops of oil on the recoil spring assist rod. I guess I'll have to shoot it to find out but that won't be for a while since I'll be going over to my familys house for thanksgiving.

There is a certain school of tactical thinking which says to only use the charging handle on ARs because "muh muscle memory" and "muh gross motor skills". I don't subscribe to it, but some do and that may be what your friends are doing.

This technique comes with the risk of bending charging handles since they weren't really meant for such tacticoolery.

Can confirm, this stuff worked wonders on my 1934/1935 Winchester model 67, which was covered in rust.

Why do handguns have such high trigger pulls, compared with rifles? It seems to me that with trigger pulls around 10 lbs, it's a perfect recipe for ruining a well-aimed shot, even if you got massively jacked Ronnie Coleman-fingers.

I can understand it with, say, Glocks, which I am led to understand have a trigger safety, but a gun with any other kind of safety would surely be just as safe with a lower trigger weight, as to help with getting off precision shots? I've read that pistols used in competitions will have lower pulls, down to 3-4 lbs, which makes a lot more sense to me, who, in case it isn't glaringly obvious, only has experience with a handful of rifles, but I'd no less like to be educated.

>>32085951
I am very fond of my Bulova Precisionist, and it comes in any number of styles. I would definitely recommend it for a day-to-day watch, but it's not particularly tacticool or anything like that.
>>
>>32092731

10lbs + or - a few lbs. would be standard for a lot of Double action and double action only trigger pulls, for safety reasons I suppose. It definitely affects accuracy, but this can be overcome with practice of course.

Single action (SAO and DA/SA) or striker fired trigger pulls tend to be much lower, in the 5-7 lb range.

However trigger weight is not the whole story. If your DA/SA or striker fired gun has 5-7lb trigger but the uptake is rough and the break is vague and unpredictable, then that will affect accuracy more than the weight will.

So for instance a 1911 (SAO) with a 5-7lb trigger, or even higher, might still provide a much cleaner, crisper, and more predictable break than a DA/SA or striker fired gun with the same, or even lighter, trigger weight.

These things can and often are modified of course. My ruger mk.III (SAO) has a 2lb trigger break thanks to some simple mods, and so it is very easy to shoot accurately and quickly.

But I can also shoot accurately and quickly with my USP, which I actually put a HEAVIER spring in, because it made the trigger break more predictable.

So basically trigger weight matters for sure, but it is also affected greatly by the type of action, caliber, and, of course, the skill of the shooter.

>>32091451
Not him but nah, trust me or not but once stress gets to your hand its really hard to insert a new magazine, let alone try and find the bolt release with your thumb
>>
>>32092731
>Why do handguns have such high trigger pulls, compared with rifles?

There has been a lot of people who have been appendix carrying (in a holster) and Mexican carrying (no holster) all around inside their pants peripheral, and shot themselves when trying to draw the pistol while fumbling with their clothing or their "layers and layers of personal living standards".

Handgun manufacturers have known this for ages, and This is the very reason why all of them
have decided to deliver their products with high pull as the factory default. Mainly to avoid consumer complaints and lawsuits.

Whatever you do with the trigger of the gun after you have purchased it, it will be all on you.

So there.
>>
hi /k/ I'm pretty sure I already know the answer but I'd like to ask anyways.

I live in commiefornia and I'm trying to avoid registration for my AR. i live in florida and need a all around good jacket for hiking in and around the everglades would something like a gorka jacket be any good
>>
>>32093404
That is the reason for this tacticool technique, and some people subscribe to it. Though it will stress standard charging handles a lot. Operational operators operating like this tend to have some kind of reenforcdd charging handle since the standard ones weren't designed for that kind of abuse.

IMO, it's pretty easy to just whack the bolt release with your palm. Works in stress and is pretty quick.

Guys where does the bullshit that someone without an FFL can't ship a firearm to someone in a different state using their FFL can't do so unless they first transfer it to an FFL in the original state come from?

How long have you had a C&R? Probably the majority of FFL(01) holders haven't got a clue what a C&R is, nor are they interested in learning. Additionally, they are not obligated to accept your C&R.

FFL(01) holders are a different breed. Many of them aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer, and even fewer of them will bother to listen to some shitstain customer trying to educate them on what a C&R is or whether they can legally accept interstate shipments of a firearm from a non-licensee.

What state are you in and where did you ship it to?

As far as having heard it before, like it was said, some FFL(01)s are just dense. Look at all of the gunbroker listings that specify something along the lines of "make sure your FFL will accept shipment from a non-licensee". Its obviously not an isolated incident.

Velocity difference can be significant. Not something like 50% different, but depending upon what lengths you're comparing, it certainly can make a difference.

To some extent, a longer barrel may be easier to shoot due to increased mass and not being as whippy or flighty as a shorter barrel.

It's all compromises in pistols. Carryability/concealability vs mass/felt recoil/muzzle flip/sight radius.

>>
>>32100616
Get an LCR if you're looking for a CC revolver. I highly recommend it. It's light enough for pocket carry and is a good IWB with the right holster.

If this is a woods gun or something you'll lock up in a vehicle I'd say get the standard hammered version. IMO it seems too heavy for CC.

I was thinking of getting this actually. Mainly for pocket and actually have a ankle holster that it could work for.

You ever shoot the the 3 inch barrel 101? That's what I would really want if I got a new revolver.

Got a opinion on any of these?>>32098977 same store has good priced Glock 27's and normally get Glock 26's and 30's in.
>>
>>32100808
Godly taste. I was trying to justify buying that version because that copper finish is aesthetic as fuck. Also I think going hammer-less on your CC is a great idea. You don't want to ingrain going SA into your muscle memory. Too much can go wrong if your not lightning fast.

I've only shot the 3" inch 101 a few times but I liked it. It's actually what I want to get when I'm ready to buy a revolver for hiking and general outdoors things. Just long enough but not too long it becomes cumbersome.
>>
>>32100808
Sorry I saw the copper cylinder and sperged out joyously for a second and didn't read the last part.

The LC9 would serve you well I'm sure. I'd go with the LC9s Pro. They've got them on PSA's site for 300. No safety and no mag disco safety is the way to go.

I'm not a Glock guy but I'm not going to bash on the 26. It's a great gun just be sure it's not too bulky for your CC system.

As far as the Maks go I'm completely inexperienced with them so I couldn't give you an opinion either way.

Anyone know what the name or purpose of this structure under the barrel of the pz.IV is? Is it a sighting device of some manner?
Mostly see it in video games and scale models, I assume it was dropped either by later improved design/necessity or perhaps removed by the crews themselves as I can't find any modern reference photos of it.

When building an sbr if the oal stays over 26" can the barrel be less than 16"? I'd like to build an ar with a full stock and a 14.5" barrel with a mid-length gas system. I'm 6'5" so a full stock is about perfect for me, I'm just wondering if I can get away with the 1.5" shorter barrel due to that.
>>
>>32104723
Looked up a picture, that's it. Thanks.
>>
>>32104936
No. You cannot.
A barrel legally shorter than 16" makes the receiver by default a SBR regardless of the rifle's overall length once assembled.
Get a 14.5" barrel and have a muzzle device, of sufficient length to bring the barrel's length over 16", 'permanently' affixed to the barrel. Silver soldering or a blind pin into the threads capped by a weld are both permanent in the eyes of the law and thus add to legal barrel length.
There are many muzzle devices out there suitable for this purpose, just remember that barrel length is measured from the face of the bolt in battery to the end of the barrel.
>>
>>32104936
>>32105012
>When building an sbr
Now that I re-read your post I'm a little confused exactly what you're asking.
If you're building a SBR, OAL doesn't really matter obviously but you can't cheat the SBR barrel length classification by having a >26" OAL and you should never undercut the barrel length you applied for on your stamp. People frequently apply for pistol length barrels just in case they ever want to do it in the future but typically build something longer.
If you're building a pistol you can have a foregrip on a short barrel as long as you stay over a certain OAL without it turning into an AOW,
but TLDR short barrel <16" + buttstock is always a SBR.
>>
>>32105012
Fuck. Thanks

On another note if the hearing protection act passes would a permanantly affixed suppressor (probably a bad idea for cleaning) count towards barrel length?
>>
>>32105077
>when building an sbr
Ignore that part, im retarded
>>
>>32105090
Yes, it would count.
Just something you don't see often currently because they are expensive, there is a waiting period, and that's pretty much guaranteed to void the warranty. Currently the barrel assembly would become a NFA item and I must admit I'm not sure how the law would regard them if you were to remove/separate them from each other, if the act passes and silencers are pulled off the NFA registry I can only assume it wouldn't matter.

It will probably become fairly common with budget silencers if the hearing protection act passes into law.
It probably wouldn't be too bad to deal with if you had an ultrasonic cleaner you could submerge at least the silencer inside.

I can only imagine the nuisance cases that would be brought against ranges that allowed people to fire without one. It's going to be weird seeing range rules requiring them.

I never use snap caps and dry fire all the time. I may just be unlucky, by the Firing pin retaining pin broke in my CZ 75BD and I replaced it with a semi-roll pin with a gap that can be dry fired without breaking. Also my LC9s broke it's firing pin after firing less than 100 rounds likely due to dry firing. I took it out one day and it wouldn't fire.
>>
>>32108658
How do you like the LC9s? Was thinking of getting one now that there 300.

Cheap and concealable. Not a lot of frills but (should) do what it needs to do. I got the pro without the safety and mag disconnect. I probably doesn't make a difference. The trigger is long like a double action only but relatively crisp in the break. It's a carry piece.

In order to release the slide from the frame there's a button you have to depress with a special tool that comes (hopefully) with the gun, and can be a real bitch to get to work.

Hickok did a video on the Walther CCP and disassembled it 4 and a half minutes in, it's essentially the same as the P99.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19ajx2X1RqA

That's really the only downside of the P99, which even then can be a blessing in disguise as it means it's less likely to come apart/malfunction, and you'd only have to disassemble it for cleaning as often as you would for any other gun.
>>
>>32112260
The 8th is the chambered round

Pull the slide back, manually insert a round in the chamber, then load a full magazine into it, 7+8.

I had the exact same question not too long ago, you're not stupid.

>>32112283
