Dear /k/

What is the best bang for buck .308 bolt action that has detachable a magazine without modifying?

Cheaper, the better but I don't want garbage.
>>
Savage arms axis 2 seems cheap, have heard they put out some pretty quality stuff
>>
>>32057129
Detachable as in "detachable but so low cap and so special-snowflake you'll just reload from the top," or detachable as in "commonly found pattern of magazine that fits more than one model of rifle?"
>>
>>32057151
Probably more the latter.
More so you can have a few loaded.
>>
>>32057148
Thanks I'll take a look
>>
>>32057176
Look for anything that takes AICS magazines then.
>>
>>32057210
Any specific suggestions?
>>
>>32057293
Only thing that comes to mind is the Ruger Gunsite Scout.
>>
>>32057129

Rem 700.

Best bang for your buck.

Howa M1500

Made in Japan to some fucking fantastic quality, and if you buy what the gun likes or handloads, it is a very dependable sub-1MOA gun. For the sub $400 price tag, you can afford to buy some more magazines and a decent scope for it, then you'll be sitting real damn pretty.

And if you've never heard of Howa, there's a reason: they make the Weatherby Vanguard series of rifles, and Weatherby would like you to keep not knowing that, so they can charge you $700 for the same damn rifle.

Tikka T3, nothing comes close to that level of quality at the price.

Savage makes 2-3 detachable mag models at that price, but they are way crustier than Tikka. You won't find a R700 for $500 anymore.

>>32057370
No NO NO NO!
>No.

You can get a savage 10T in a fucking Accustock for $480 at Cabelas.

Or this >>32057391
>>
>>32057370
Don't you need to mod it for mags?

No yourself. pic related

anyway savage IS still a great option (rem entry level bolt is better) for the same-ish price.

Solid rifles, pick yourself up one.
>>
>>32057396
if you think a Tika is better than a savage you can get fucked

I'm actually NorCal up here in Sacratomato, but I'm Cali nonetheless.

What kind of autistic monopoly man buys a Savage and Remington just to take them apart and compare headspace tolerances?
>>
>>32057482
I have owned a new manufacture Remington 700 and a Savage 10 FCP-SR

Guess which one still goes to the range with me and didn't fire because I closed the bolt too hard... or rusted overnight in a dry room... or had visible flaws in the rifling...
>>
+1 for the Savage Axis OP
>>
>>32057483
Really?
>>
>>32057566
It depends on the model, just like >>32057482 is suspect without knowing what models those are and if there is other evidence/information missing.
>>
I have a Remington 770 in a 308 win I love it only paid like 279 plus tax
>>
>>32057391

It's detachable magazines are known to be flimsy. Just one slight touch to the magazine release tab thingy and it falls to the ground.
>>
100% Mossberg MVP LC
>>
>>32057129

Not exactly cheap, but the Ruger Precision Rifle can take both AICS magazines and SR-25 mags.
>>
>>32057541
R700

I've never heard or seen a r700 not fire from closing the bolt too hard (have 1 700p and 1 700sps), but I've seen that happen first hand on my father's savage 10pc.

The latter part makes me think youre talking about taking the savage though because big green rifles do rust easy, and the rifling meme pic of course.
>>
Savage 10 FCP SR

lots of features that cannot be touched outside of a 1400 range in a gun that only costs $600

weakest link is the stock which can be replaced whten you have the money.
>>
>>32058265
I second this
>>
>>32058313
The fuck? Did you have a stroke writing the last bit of that?

>>32058456
I own one, the stock feels like dildos but does the job, just gotta tighten the action screws to proper spec, they never are.

Weakest link in the 10 FCP-SR is the damn magazines.
>>
>>32057391
Where can you find one of these for <$400?

Particularly one in OD like that if possible
>>
>>32058265
Agree. I have this topped with a razor hd and consistently shoot sub-moa groups.
>>
>>32057129
I second OPs request
>>
>>32057391
I am actually planning on getting the Weatherby Vanguard for deer season next year so that would be a nice compliment
>>
Depends on what you're looking for. Tikka T3 rifles are all very solid for 600-700$, if you need to go cheaper than that, Savage's low end is still solid. That's assuming general use, though. If you plan on getting into precision shooting, the Ruger Precision Rifle is great for the price, but it's better to get that one in 6.5cm imo
>>
>>32059050

Weatherby and Howa are basically made by the same manufacturer, just different brands.
>>
>>32057588
I do too, and it's a piece of trash. The bolt stop sheared off after I've put maybe 200 rounds through the gun, the bolt is really gritty feeling while opening and closing it, and the magazine floorplate falls off all the time letting literally everything fall to the ground.

OP, don't buy budget Remington rifles. Sometimes they're good, sometimes they're shit, and I personally regret buying mine. Does it put bullets on target? Yes. But still, I'm saving for a Tikka T3 to replace it.
I also have a savage axis in .223 and it's fucking fantastic.
>>
>>32058279
Yeah probably hard to beat the Ruger rpr for the $$$

I have been wanting a bolt gun sort of and would either get a Tikka + chassis, savage 10 fcp-hs, or a Ruger rpr
>>
why

So i really would like to have a bolt action in.308 with irons. But all i have is a Ruger M77 .253 to trade. There's a guy who wants to trade me a pretty nice sighted m700 in 30-06 and I'm so torn. if i sell the m77 for a good price like $560~ what could i expect to get in .308? magazine preferred but not necessary, can be used but i don't want a beater
>>
Magpul 700 hunter stock on a Remington 700 varmint in 308. Best budget long range rifle combination.
>>
>>32059031>>32059031
Really? $2000 scope on a $800 rifle?
>>
>>32058279

This, Its a fucking fantastic rifle out of the box and I love mine

Since this is bolt action thread of some sorts i wanna ask you /k/unts a question.
Do you know anything about the Roessler Titan 16?

anyways would apreciate if anyone has any info or at least oppinion on it
