No, if it says "Mod.98" on the receiver wall or ring it is or was a German Karabiner 98k. Don't ask me why they didn't mark it as "Kar.98k" like they did the plain "Kar.98" with the Imperial-era Karabiner 98 and Karabiner 98AZ , or "Karab.98b" like the Weimar-era Karabiner 98b.
