Boeing will grow larger.

A deal for Kuwait for up to 40 Super Hornets (28 + 12 options) and up to 72 Strike Eagles for Qatar (36 +36 options) has been approved.

Why the fuck is anyone buying those ancient 70s airplanes when the F35 sales are just around the corner.
>>
>>32034767
So are these upgraded airframes or does Boeing have the capabilities to produce new ones?
>>
>>32034815
iirc the gulf countries aren't being offered the F-35. The only country in the region offered F-35 sales is Israel for beyond obvious reasons.
>>
>>32034767
boeing shouldn't be able to sell to anyone outside of the usa. i don't want the camel fuckers getting tech they don't deserve.
>>
>>32034847
Why don't they buy the Gripen or some newshit then. Super Hornets and F15s aren't even cheap.
>>
>>32034886
>I don't want money

You nationalists are hilarious.
>>
>>32034886
they are allies, and the money they put into boeing supports the US, as well as furthering evolutions of the eagle and future projects.

Are you telling me you don't want to see the Boeing Space Eagle?

You want to deny your grandchildren the awe and joy of seeing an F-15XmkIII block 52 executing a atmo-skim maneuver as it bounces across the atmosphere of earth to deliver precision guided freedom?

Fuck. Why don't you just go shit on mount Rushmore you seditious fuck?

I'm not saying that American companies shouldn't sell weapons to other countries. I'm saying tax payer funded development shouldn't contribute to foreign sales. If they want to build a F19 piece-of-shit and sell it to dumbfuckistan i dont care, just keep my money out of it

All of these F-16/Su-34/MiG-29s/F-18/F-15/Typhoon/Rafale sales in the Middle East.

Nice.
>>
Boeing is already using Chinese parts.

Middle East should just buy Chinese.
>>
>>32038346
The entire 737 production line is being shipped out to China.
>>
>>32034847

Also Turkey. Since they are in NATO, it would be kind of rude to exclude them from exports.
>>
Interesting, Kuwait has already ordered 28 Typhoons, and Qatar is considering splitting that 72 jet order between the F-15E and the Typhoon. Add in that Saudi Arabia operates the Typhoon alongside American aircraft, and even Oman has ordered 12 Typhoons alongside their F-16s as well, and it seems that the Gulf Arab states are going heavily for a USA + Typhoon mix.
>>
>>32038392

>Qatar
Actually OP's article is probably wrong, I've just checked and Qatar is ordering the Rafale, which means procuring the Typhoon is unlikely. Perhaps they confused it with Bahrain's ongoing consideration of the Typhoon.

They are

A Qatar prince once bused a whole bunch of us to his Persian Gulf palace for us to get shit faced, smoke hookah, ride jet skies and ATV in the desert.

Did I mention it was a police escort and we did not stop at any stop signs or red lights?
>>
>>32034899
Because the F-15 blows it out of the water?
>>
>>32034899

I agree with
>>32038689

Seriously, the F-15E has more than twice the empty weight of the Gripen. It's a completely different class of aircraft in terms of strike capability to the Gripen.
>>
>>32038346
Chinese planes are fucking shit.

Might as well buy Russian, which the Egyptians and Algerians already are.

The Iranians seem pretty keen too, but they'll probably have to wait for 2020 for arms sanctions to end/
>>
>>32034767
>Kuwait
>Qatar

Who are they going to fight?
>>
>>32038804

Firstly, they are buying influence in Washington. The Gulf Arabs would like to keep the USA on their side in diplomatic matters, as well as military ones. Being valuable customers is part of getting a seat at a table, or appointment with the White House.

Secondly, Arab nations want the capability to carry out their own interventions in their near abroad, both those countries are in the Yemen coalition against the Houthis, and several Arab countries are taking part in the strikes on ISIS in Syria and Libya.

Thirdly, both those countries are dependent on the Persian Gulf for their trade, and while an Iraqi invasion won't happen again, it is possible that Iran might become hostile and harass shipping or try to close the Strait of Hormuz (as during the Iran-Iraq war). While it is unlikely to happen, it would be disastrous if it did.

Weedman is also reportedly once again considering a sole source buy of Super Hornets. With the Super Hornet line stretched out to the 2020s with the Kuwait order, it now seems much more likely.

>>
>>32040625
This seems like a stupid pride move when you're military is telling you they don't meet needs and the F-35 is the best choice.
>>
>>32040679
Basically, but not much choice. The only real options are the F-35 and Super Hornet, and he swore not to buy the F-35. What else can he do?
>>
>>32038804
Iran.
>>
>>32040431
Contract is already done and the aircrafts in production.
>>
>>32040722
They were probably hoping Qatar would go for more Rafales instead of this.

Plus a country buying 24 Rafales and then turning around and buying potentially 3 times the number of a competing plane doesn't look great.
>>
>>32040685
why not go for an F-15? It can handle all your runways, and meets the mission, plus its a strike fighter/ bomber.

Hornet is sort of a slug in terms of speed. its got great avionics, but so does the 15
>>
>>32040763
The price of the latest F-15 export variants is around the same area as the Rafale or Typhoon. The Super Hornet is much cheaper.
>>
>>32040625
Also should be noted, this is only for an "interim" buy of 20 Hornets, similar to Australia. This would push the pressure off of Trudeau, and allow either the next administration to buy the F-35, or for him to distance himself enough from his promise so he can buy them later.
>>
>>32040685
Man up and admit he was wrong?
>>
>>32040763
Cheaper
Built for more trying conditions
Similar to legacy Hornet, which Canada operates
>>
>>32040800
Yeah, but at that point it's a special, short production run just for Canada they'll have to wait for almost as long or longer than just waiting for FRP F-35s to start rolling off and getting those on-hand.
>>
>>32038962
>circa 2002

>circa 2004

you know its been over a decade since most of those problems were observed right ?
>>
>>32040431
No, the Qataris have always wanted Strike Eagles and Gulf States like to buy one US and one European system.

The French have got their sale and are happy.

They're working on the UAE pretty hard.
>>
>>32040800
The difference is that Australia was locked in to buying F-35As already, whereas Canada is still meant to be running a competition. If you get an "interim" of Super Hornets, you make Boeing's competition proposal 30%+ cheaper, giving them an unfair advantage. If anything, it'd make more sense to get an interim fleet of F-35s; they'd be more expensive, but you'd get more way more bang for your buck, they'd be delivered just as fast and they'd be finished with development and testing, not to mention if you're running a fair competition you're likely to have the F-35 win anyway.

But really, the most sensible course of action is to just quit the bullshitting and get on with the competition.

Actually Qatar ordered F15-QA, no one knows what QA means but most likely it will be like the Saudi ones, Advanced F-15.

And Kuwait ordered Super hornets with AESA radar and CFT and other stuff.
I'm doubting it's going to be Advanced look alike
>>
>>32036660
You probably aren't old enough to have paid for the development costs of the F-15 through taxes.
>>
>>32034899
Look, I'm a huge Gripen fan. But it's a case of apples and oranges

Gripen is a neat swing-role fighter; decent payload, very small RCS, good tech and cheap to run . It can bomb, it can do recon and it can fight everything you could ever want

But in no fucking way it it comparable to a big-ol twin engine air-superiority fighter
>>
>>32048110
Super hornet and F15E are air superiority fighters?
>>
>>32040679
That's not what their military said. All the fighters met their needs but just one excelled.
>>
>>32048243
Yes. Currently the Super Hornet is the USN's air superiority fighter.

The Strike Eagle still has all the anti-air capabilities of the non-strike eagle, with the extra ground attack abilities and increased range that the non-strike eagles lack.
>>
>>32049856
Plus an AESA radar that the majority of Cs lack.
