Sup /k/, I know literally nothing about guns except that they fire bullets. I just moved to the city and I realized I don't want to walk around without a gun in case I find myself at the mercy of some amphetamine addicted bum. I'm looking for something small and compact for under $300, I was thinking maybe a little snub nose revolver but you guys are the experts. Any recommendations?

Take an NRA training course- they have some basic ones for new shooters:
http://www.nrainstructors.org/
Once you've done that you'll have a bit more experience and knowledge about how to safely use a firearm, and also about what suits you best.
Also, up your budget to $500, and include money for ammo and a decent holster.

This, Hi Point comrade.
>>32034550
This would be a decent choice or a SCCY. They are both around $200
>>32034530
First do a course, then gun, then train, then carry.. You must follow this steps in order not to be a danger to yourself or others firstly and then to be competent in your self defense
If you are a lazy fuck just get a mace and run if truble, or get a rape whistl pussy.. Real men train and become proficient, and fend for themslves
What state?

This is good advice.
>>32034530
A LC series gun from Ruger is a pretty good option and comes with that sweet sweet warranty.
>>32034530
1. Find a range where you can rent a variety of pistols, until you find a couple you're comfortable with.
2. Take a course or two, get feedback on your choices from step 1.
3. THEN buy a gun.
4. PROFIT.

Makarov.
>/r/ing that willis comic
And don't buy a revolver.
This >>32034550 isn't a bad choice either. Not sure how easy it is to find them for under $300 though.
>>32034571
This >>32034571 is good advice. You will need a box of good ammo, a decent holster, and a gun belt.
This guy >>32034717 is full of shit.
Buy your gun first if you are on a budget and need it for self-defense. The niggers aren't gunna wait for you to be NRA certified.
AFTER you get the gun, go get training.
But training is important.

No, no, no.
You shouldn't troll people who are noguns and ask for legit help.
OP, stay away from Hi Point, Jennings, Raven, and Kel-tec. They are shit quality that trap people with low prices or flashy designs.

Also, /r/ing that pic of /k/ approved budget handguns.
Its ugly but for $100.00 seems like a good deal .38 spc

Also
Glock 19
Glock 26
Glock 43
CZ 75b
>Wild West Mode
Ruger Vaquero chambered in .357, carried in a cowboy rig.
Also you wear authentic period garb and talk in a heavy Western accent.

He said he knows literally nothing except guns fire bullets.
Training first is not a bad idea in this case.
>>32035834
He doesn't have enough money for both.
So training must come later.
>>32034530
the Cyprus special
First, move out of the city
Second, do research before you invest in any gun
Thirdly, expect to spend a lot more than $300 on a carry piece you're going to trust your life to. You do value your life at more than $300, right? Otherwise dont worry about buying a gun.
>>32034530
This is why Canadians have a mandatory safety course. The rest of the laws ate buttfucking cousins retarded, bit that one isn't.
>Always check to se if loaded
>Always point in safe direction
>Always, ALWAYS finder off trigger unless shooting
>No Fucking drinking or drugs with gun
>Common Fucking sense.

>>32035050
There is literally nothing wrong with a hipoint, quit being a prissy little fag.
>>32034530
Hipoint would be good for you OP, they are durable, cheap and easy to use.
>>32035050
>Jennigs, Raven, Jiminez etc
>looks like shit
>works like shit
>Hi-Point
>looks like shit
Know the difference. I still wouldn't recommend one for a carry piece

grab a bersa thunder for about 250-275. Small subcompact pistol. Its basically the generic version of the classic James Bond pistol (walther ppk). Its easy to breakdown and should be reliable.
godspeed anon.
>>32034530
i have to agree with some other people here, if you know nothing about guns, then you NEED to learn before you carry
you also need to learn your state and city's laws for carry and self defence
and you'll probably need a CCP
but as for the gun itself, $300 is pretty low for anything decent. Makarov variants are probably your best bet in this.
partially opinion on my part, but I'd stay away from revolvers for cc. they're thicker and with fewer rounds.
>>32035976
he just needs to lurk on /k/ for training, and the internet
if he has the gun but no knowledge of the use, he's not gonna be able to use it when the time comes
or he'll just ND into his face because he was cleaning it while it was loaded
>>32038606
No.
Hi points are unreliable and should NOT be trusted as a self-defense weapon.
>>32038621
We are agreeing.
They are fine for the range.
They are not fine for self-defense.
>>32034530
>but you guys are the experts.
Do you believe everything you read on the internet, see on tv, or hear on the radio?
People try to be factual but opinions really weight the firearms enthusiast community down to a lot of biases that have subjective reasoning rather than objective factual basis.
>>32034530
>Any recommendations?
Read a lot, get some training from actual instructors.
"Carry" guns usually are not "practice" guns consider getting something you'd want to practice with rather than a carry thing.
