How fat is your wallet or how much access do you have to the tools you'll need?
>>
>>32033970
As of now I'm on a $500 budget, but I'm just trying to get my build off of the ground and start building it
>>
>>32034054
Do you plan on building from an 80% receiver or buying one with the rails already welded and holes already drilled?
>>

If you have to ask you don't have the skills, knowledge, or tools required to build an AK.

It isn't like slapping an AR together in your bedroom, it's a legitimate machining process.
>>
>>32034111
Everyone does have to ask something at some point, but coming to /k/ expecting a full tutorial is being overly optimistic. There's millions of threads on the ins and outs of building an AK, and they're full of a lot more knowledgeable people than the average /k/unt.

That said, I wouldn't call AK building a legitimate machining process, I built a couple in a one bedroom apartment and have yet to see a single failure out of any of them.
>>
>>32034111
Flandre doesn't build at the moment, as far as I know. Though his videos are very helpful.
>>
>>32034083
Planning on doing it from a 80% reciever but I have pretty close to zero knowledge when it comes to AKs (More of an AR fag) so I don't know if an 80% build is the best for me
>>
>>32034214
Building an AK is many times more involved and difficult than piecing together an AR. Start by reading up on how to build one on forums. Next, read some more. After that, keep reading.

Then, realize that $500 is only going to get you a parts kit, barrel, and not much else.

500 is just the parts

>combat proven Colt AR-15

Since when were ARs issued by the military?
>>
>>32034214
youre way unde rprepared and underfunded. watch some YT vids on ak building. this atleast gives you an idea of what needs to be done.
>>
>>32034411
AR's are issued by the military.
Colt makes the absolute best AR's dude.
I just don't want OP spending $500 on tools and $600 on parts to build a gun her probably won't even like.

>>32034437
>not liking an AK

Wanna know how I know you're gay?
>>
>>32034296
can you hot blue a completed and heat treated receiver in molten potassium nitrate, with out affecting the temper?
>>
>>32034449
AK's are made for (and by) uneducated peasants.
Figures /k/ would like them.
AR's are precision tools made for trained professionals.
OP seems to actually care about his tools (seeing as how he wants to build it himself)
An AR would be the better choice here
>>
>>32034437
>spending $500 on tools

a hammer, a punch set, a bench vice, a razor blade, and an armorers wrench are literally all you need. if all that cost you 500 bucks then you spent WAY too fucking much.
>>
>>32034472
>you can only own an AR or an AK, not both

Wanna know how I know you're gay?
>>
>>32034474
Didn't know his receiver was already drilled. My bad.
>>32034483
Back to /pol/
>>
>>32034450
Not I.O. anon, but as far as I know, hot bluing temps don't go too far north of 300*F. I tempered all of my receivers at 500*F, so you probably won't hurt anything by hot bluing, but I could be very wrong.
>>
>>32034474
Are you talking about building an AK or an AR? I've never seen an "armorers wrench" for an AK.
>>
>>32034450
No! #1 You don't "hot blue steel using molten potassium nitrate. #2 For the express reason that the purpose of a Nitride treatment is to alter the temper of steel.
>>
>>32034536
>I've never seen an "armorers wrench" for an AK.

It's called a rock.
>>
>>32034474
Have you ever built an ak?
AR's are assembled, ak's are built.
Decent difference.
