Redpill me on body armor.
I went to a store to get fitted today and they had a bunch of different types I knew nothing about. What's a good lightweight concealable armor? Is level 2 good enough? What do cops typically wear?
From what I recall, police uniforms are pre-fitted for kevlar to fit under their shirts which is why it seems to blend so well. Not sure as far as what they wear exactly but department to department is usually the case.

IIIA is the standard among law enforcement. i can honestly say ive never spoken to anyone in any other agency that has been issued anything below IIIA

My sides.
No literally, my sides need to be covered.
As a firefighter we just got lvl 4 plate carriers ..... bahahahahahah. Don't shoot me fire!!
>>32022589
what if they shoot you in the face?
>>32022684
Everyone at my academy recommended level II. I've tried IIIa and they're considerably less comfy (makes a typical cross draw difficult). Might not be a big deal to some but if you're planning on wearing it often or everyday it's a different story.
Pls respond

Only a handful of IIIA BALCS inserts are under 1/4 an inch. All of them are dyneema This is the lightest and thinnest you can go without spending thousands.

What's the going rate for body armor?
>>32023230
>stopping .44 magnum is standard
>level II's can only stop .357 magnum that's not enough guys seriously
>>32023328
depends on your budget. But you need at least 600.00 shekels for a decent concealed system.Rifle panels cost will depend on how many back problems you want later on.To include how much you can afford while also knowing where to look. Expect to pay 415 + 39 for shipping for a set of decent level 3 stand alone ARMA NORWEGIAN plates .http://www.ebay.com/itm/Level-III-SiC-Dyneema-bulletproof-armour-plate-M16-AK47-10x12-inch-2-plates-/222181199625?hash=item33bb080f09:g:1PkAAOSwn8FXRpcY

SAPIshit is an excuse to sell "universal" size armor on the internet. People that actually need their armor get fitted and have a custom fit set made, that does indeed cover the sides and may also have stab coverage on said sides.

This

IIIA works for shotguns too

You have to go back
For confrontations with a criminal or armed intruder, level 2 is generally fine and much more concealable than rigid body armor. If you're concerned about rifles, level 3 or 4 is needed. It's unlikely a criminal would have anything more powerful than a .357 mag. If they have a .357 they likely won't buy the high quality full power loads. Even if they do, NIJ lvl2 is sufficient.
>>32022734
that's a risk you should be willing to take.

>>32023521 #
There's a key for that you know.
This chart suggests that level 2a stops 00 buck and level 2 stops 44mag. Is this correct?
>>32023421
>People that actually need their armor get fitted
That's why there's different SAPI sizes.
> that does indeed cover the sides
Side plates for rifle rounds, BALCS cut soft armor for pistol.
>and may also have stab coverage on said sides.
Full retard. A cop may face both handguns and knives, but no one is going to be facing rifles and knives.
Armor isn't some weightless magical entity that will deflect bullets.

>My academy
>Cross draw... "typical"

You go to a shit academy that gives your shit, out of date armor and teaches you shit techniques
>>32023951
Crossdraw is shit, IIIA only provides marginal benefits for the amount of bulk over II.
>>32023951
You can't carry your taser on your gun side, that my friend would be a shit technique as you may draw the wrong thing. I only used that movement as an example of how difficult it is to maneuver in those things.

The postal service has a NSN for plate carriers. Did you miss the various shootings involving fake 911 Calls where the shooter baited first responders then lit them up?

Yeah, cause they really have time to choose right..

Can anyone explain why I shouldn't just spend top dollar and get class 4 armor? Is its only detriment that it's heavier than 3a? (Not discounting that as a consideration, just asking.)

I'm so fucking confused. Is it class 3a or 4? 3a with a confusing branding, I assume?
>>32023328
In central Florida, $300 dollarydoos for one class 4 armor plate.
Keep in mind you're going to want to replace them every 5 years or so because they degrade over time.

As a police officer, my current unit uses concealable vests with stab plates. My last unit used some pretty nice outer vests though.
Depends really on application and usage, m8.

Nah bro, save the weight and get the less capable stuff for the almost identical money. There are actually very, very few rifles in the country- the nra just inflates the numbers by a few million. Your chances of ever even seeing a rifle in real life, let alone being shot by one, are incredibly rare

Weapons: Offenders used firearms to kill 46 of the 51 victim officers. Of these 46 officers, 33 were slain with handguns, 10 with rifles, and three with shotguns. Four officers were killed with vehicles used as weapons, and one was killed with personal weapons such as hands, fists, or feet.

It's far more likely that if you're in a dire enough situation with active shooters aiming for you as an obviously armed and armored target its probably gonna be with a pistol. Especially if fantasy hits the fan, pistols will be everywhere. Don't you even stalker bro?

They don't go up high enough and I've never seen a concealable sapi carrier that has side panel pockets. Also you don't get shoulder coverage. SAPIshit is garbage when it comes to soft armor, I understand the purpose of universal plates for hard armor but it's full retard for soft. Again, it's only a thing because they can sell universally sized plates online.
>>32033011

Im a cop south of chicago and we are issued Point Blank Vision LvL II vests... they cost about $1300. Its super lightweight and comfortable also.
The thing with kevlar now and days is that theyre so advanced rhat although its rated for level II threats, itll stop most level IIIa type shit too... it just cant guarantee it for liability reasons. Expensive vests like mine go through pretty harsh simulated wear and can stop rated threats even afterward.
Hope that helps
>>32036751
Also, I carry level IV plates for high risk and active shooter shit.. if youre caught in a gun battle with somewhere who you need more than level II to save you, youre in the wrong place homie.
>>32022684
Las Vegas strip Security bro here, lvl 2 is what we're issued, with a single trauma plate. They allow us to get our own, but thwy provide that for free.
