Is a powerful LED flashlight a good defensive weapon for somebody like me who goes on nightwalks? The attacker would lose all of their eyes adjustment to the dark and be at an extreme disadvantage trying to shoot or jump you without missing.
I live in Illinois and refuse to pay $300 for a CCW license with restrictions in almost every public place.
sure, if thats all you have. bonus points if its large and heavy, you could use it as a blunt object to strike with if need be

No
You know what is a good defensive weapon?
A gun.
Buy a fucking gun.
It would make a good sex toy for your attacker to use on your unconscious body

I have a M&P 10 tactical flashlight and with fresh batteries 760 lumens really hurts your eyes

I'd rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6

Carried one in milwaukee for a few years.
Would have preferred a gun, but couldn't (college)
Yeah, they work.
Homemade 100 watt, ~1000 lumen flashlight I made. Stays on my dorm nightstand every night just waiting to blast some unfortunate soul.

Shitty soldering joint detected
Touch up that black to blob boy-o, wire shouldn't be exposed like that.
Neat project though.
Just carry anyway.
If you're well dressed and don't start shit it's pretty much impossible that you'll ever be terry stopped.

Dumb question, but whats actually creating the light? Looks like a CPU socket, some sort of led array or something?

Top fucking kek that's got to be wicked

I'll fuckin rek you, u cheeky cunt
Since that photo, there's a 3d printed shroud to prevent the LED's leads from bending down that covers that. It's only 32 volts at like 3 amps, what are you afraid of?
>>32003527
Ya the yellow area is an array of LEDs.

My concern is that mechanical force on the exposed tip could cause the wire to break off where it is connected tangentially to the solder. Classic lever problem
Always bury the tip ;)

Meh. It would probably startle someone for a second or two and temporarily blind them depending on how dark it is, but a light is not really a weapon. The light gives you just a little bit of time to get to your actual weapon. Why use it first then? Because you can walk around with a flashlight in your hand, not so much a gun or knife. Having a decent flashlight is always a good thing though. Worst case scenario is that it gets tossed in a drawer until a storm comes and knocks out the power for a few hours.
