Talk to me about Krag's I am debating getting one (Would prefer one in 6.5 although I will be happy with a nice condition one in .30 army).

>How do they stack up against other rifles of the day?

I already own some enfields, mausers (swedish and german) and nagants and I am curious how the Krag is compared to them.

>Pic is a Danish Krag which I personally think is ugly as fuck with the barrel shroud.

Krags are very obviously a transitional bolt-action. Only one locking lug, mostly chambered in rimmed cartridges, low operating pressure, and so on. They are butter-smooth, but they're slow to load. I'd say it's superior to the Lebel, on par with Nagants (the defects of each balance the other out) but vastly inferior to any post-93 Mauser design.

Do it.

Oh yeah, right. All that having been said, get one. 6.5 Swede/Norge or .30 Army is your choice, but keep in mind most 6.5 is loaded for Mauser pressures. Most .30-40 is meant for Krags, so you don't have to worry about it.

I do alot of hand loading and since I already have a 6.5 mauser I would have brass on hand to shoot in it.

Although being realistic I barely shoot any of my Milsurps so ammo isnt too much of a worry.
>>
>>31989373
The krag is probably the smoothest military bolt action ever.
>>
>>31989773
The Lee-Enfield comes pretty close.
>>
>>31989819
My only complaint is cock on close, I really dont like that.
>>
>>31989320
They were standard issue for only 16 years for a reason.

>got BTFO by the Mauser 98

Dane here.

Even I would go for the Norwegian ones rather than the Danish ones. The Danish KJs have the most stupid mag, and that barrel jacket is just filling my brain with fuck.

I've never handled an American one, but from what I gather they're design wise very close to the Norwegian ones, which is good stuff.

Hi, Dane.
>>
>>31990575
Well, in DK they were standard issue from 1889 to 1945... That's 56 years bro
>>
>>31989320
I'm sure it's a great rifle, but I'm really not a fan of the style of mag. Got to load single rounds unless you manage to find one of those civi-made speed loader things, which appears to me to basically be a separate magazine with which to load your fixed mag. Got a spring in it and everything. I'd suggest trying to track down an M1917. Now THOSE are damn fine rifles, even if they're a bit heavy. Built like a brick shithouse.

I think he was referring to relevant countries, and it was less than 20 years in the US, I think it and the M14 hold the distinction for being so short served.
>>
i like my krag, it's been a great rifle the couple years i've had it. Like other anons said, smooth as hell bolt, nice lower power cartridge, not quite a mauser, but a damn fine rifle all the same.
>>
Had to find ammo. Remington and Winchester make it seasonally, but I heard they got a gov't contract and stopped. Options are gunbroker or you can reload .303 into .30-40.

>TELL ME ABOUT KRAG

The M14 is still in service tho.

Nah, that's the Greek Mannlicher-Schönauer, which is slicker than a teflon-coated shaved porn star doused in KY.

Technically it got BTFO by the Mauser 93.

You damn right. Makes the Krag look like shit in comparison.
>>
I love mine, but ammo is a pain to find. Remington does a run every year, but I end up reloading my brass. Some shots have been fired 5 times.

I may be biased because the gun is very sentimental, it was my great grand father's. There's so many fiddly things to play with on it. I spend lots of time just messing with the action. It's like slicing warm butter with a hot, sharp knife.
