The ammo is rare, so rare you'll only find a handful of cartridges at a time, each individual cartridge having a starting price of $50 alone. Secondly, pretty much all the ammo ever made is decades past it's best before date, this shit was dubious way back in the 80's

You'd be likelier to win a million dollars than to get through even one loaded magazine with less than 5 failures.

I paid $3k for mine and it was a steal at that. Only 210 imported, only 190 made it to collector hands. Typically between $4500 - 5500 for the ones like mine with the 21" barrel. The 18.5" barrels (of which there were only a handful) only one I've seen was up for $13k.
