If you're gonna do a high-volume caliber like .223 (or any of the pistol calibers), definitely a progressive. Yes, they're expensive. Yes, they pay for themselves rapidly.

I have a Hornady LnL AP. It's alright but not as good as a Dillon. Just do your research if you wanna go Dillon, not all their presses can do all the rifle rounds.

Any of the Russian primers are pretty good, actually. For whatever reason they're very consistent, and they're cheap. I've used both Wolf-branded Tula (before they shacked up with Barnaul) and Tula-branded Tula. Supposedly the Wolf-branded Barnaul is pretty much the same.

Ball powders meter very well on any of the case-activated powder drops, but I like medium stick powders (Varget, H335, H332, 8208XBR) for accuracy and temperature insensitivity even though they meter poorly. There's literally at least 100 powders that work for AR-appropriate .223 loads though.

Powder's your single cheapest component, at around 2 cents a round. Primers should be 2.5-3 cents a round, leaving brass (surely you can scavenge this) and bullets (around 8-9 cents per for 55gr FMJBT, I use Berry's-rebranded-Hornady).

To give an idea on accuracy, my BL-C2 based M193-clones are sub-MOA, and I've shot 3, half-MOA 5-shot groups with Varget-based M193-clone handloads.

Dillon dies are OK, they've got a great decapping feature but aren't super great at resizing. I'm using RCBS small-base, Hornady Custom Grade are pretty good too. You WILL break decapping pins, so buy spares.

Any lanolin-based case lube is fine. I use Dillon because it's available locally and is pretty cheap.

Clean and degrease your dies before use.
