Join a CERT. Almost all the guys in mine are has-guns. Good community. Actually help people. Not cringey and no bad reputation by default like with militias. Good way to get training and have an in with local emergency/sherrif/etc.

All the good parts of a militia, none of the bad, side benefits to boot.
