Vextra 105 prototype.
Turret is a GIAT TML105 firing 105 NATO. The original AMX10RC 105mm was a low pressure gun firing a dedicated shorter round.

Sadly this wonderful 8x8 was replaced by the VBCI which featured a Renault driveline instead of a GIAT one. It later served as a test bed for the 120mm FER (faible effort de recul, low recoil effort) which is also dead in the water but allowed for important breakthroughs.
The age of 90 and 105mm guns on 6x6 will be over with the arrival of the Jaguar, armed with a 40mm CTA and missiles.

And this is the 120 FER testbed.
The turret was designed after the light version of the Leclerc turret.
This would not fit on the current VBCI anyway, but maybe on the heavier VBCI 2.

You can't drop them out of an airplane.

The 120mm Tiger mortar can, but its more mortar than gun. And it's not a program of record yet.

When I was in Iraq, those cannons were firing 24/7 the entire 18 months I was there. I never found out what they were shooting at but holy fuck whatever it was got its ass pounded like no other. It never stopped.

They were infact at first projected as a replacement for the IKV 91 (tank destroyer/assault gun).

IKV stands for Infanterikanonvagn wich roughly translates to Infantry gun wagon or assault gun.
The IKV 91s operated as the infantry brigades own mobile assault weapons to support the assault done by infantry battalions (usually transported in TGB 20 trucks [pic related] or later MT-LBs and BMP-1s).

The age of light vehicles with oversized guns is any age where there hasn't been a major war in a while and countries are looking to save some cash.
