You can find fine MACs for far cheaper then $800, hell you only really need to spend about $75-$100 more for a significant rise in quality. including not using those awful mags.
that said, there's after market mags for the cobrays that don't suck as well.
This is also discounting the old powder springs MACs, which predate cobray as a company.
they are surprisingly common as pe-86 guns and are very good quality.
remember, cops and special forces the world over used to use these. they were cutting edge in their era

Look, I own two FA M11s, one in 9 and one in 380. Owners know that they don't have the best FEEL or the best LOOKs. I mean, they have an 80s thing going, but other than that they are NOTHING to look at.

In the stock configuration, they are bullet hoses with borderline unsafe stocks (they can wear and fold up). That's not to say you won't hit your target, but you will likely have a 1 foot group. Still fun as fuck, though.

Luckily, there are fixes to make the guns a real competitor. The M11 beats the MP5 in subgun matches all over the US, after adding simple parts. You really need a Lage upper if you get one and now they have heavy bolts that also slow down the rate of fire. This ROF can be adjusted by simply stacking buffers.

Magazines USED to be a problem. This is the main cause for the bad reliability reputation. Not, with the Shockwave Z-Mags, no issue at all. I have not shot my M11s a lot, but with good mags I have no issues. With the old mags some worked great and some didn't, not anymore.

The M11 has a decent aftermarket and no problems that can't be fixed. THey are the best buy right now, but the cost keeps going up, better buy soon or forget it. Got mine when they were $3k+.

The stock suppressor, IDK, never had one. I have a 3-lug Gemtech MK-9K and it's great.

That was in 1983, I remember thinking that was way to expensive and as much as paying the stamp.

Though it pales in comparison to looking at the Brochure for Military Armament Corporation and seeing the MAC-10 going for $75 plus $50 for the suppressor.

Remember, the mini uzi didn't come out until the 80's and wasn't immediately available in the US.
Even considering the mini uzi, there's more compact MACs then it.
at that point the micro uzi is the only credible competitor and it didn't hit the market until the late 80's/early 90's
