So I'm pretty new to guns in general, but the first weapon I've fired was a .308 bolt action rifle. Not sure what make or model but it looked a bit like pic related.
Anyways I'm looking to buy another bolt action rifle. What does /k/ recommend for a newbie? Thanks in advance.
Newbie? 10/22 (fires .22lr). No good for hunting, but great for practice and plinking.
.308? Ruger American, Savage Axis, Tikka T3

I used to have a .22 when my dad and I would go to the range, and agreed it's great for plinking and small game.
I do plan on hunting with it. I'll look into that. Thanks anon.
Savage makes a cheap and accurate bolt action in a wide variety of calibers.
You could always buy a milsurp rifle but it won't be nearly as nice.

Are milsurp rifles cheaper? I'm a wage slave currently.

Not as much as they used to be. If you're planning on putting a scope on it, just avoid milsurp.

Alright.

If you're filthy rich and European, then you should get a Sauer 404. Alternatively the Tikka T3 is about to be released in it's Canadian Ranger edition with a sick looking stock and prices affordable by common human beans.

Not rich, and am Americunt. I'm a wage slave saving up for community college.

Savage rifles are pretty affordable.

Alright. I'll definitely look into it.
Savage bolt-guns are cheap.
Ruger's American rifle and Mossberg's patriot are also budget-level bolt guns.
If you're serious about long-range shooting though, get either
>Remington 700
>Winchester 70
>Tikka T3
>Sako's bolt-action rifle
Also, if you're going to use it mainly for hunting or shooting under 300 yards, get it chambered in
>.308
>.30-06
>.270
>.243
>.223
>Any of the popular hunting calibers
If it mainly gonna be used for longer-range engagements, try
>.30-06
>.308
>.338LM
>.300WM
>7mm Rem Mag
If it's main use is just going to be punching paper though, you may want to just stick to one of the budget calibers like .223 or .308
I personally recommend the Rem700 in 7mmRM, but that's just because that's what I have

Get a Tikka T3. They have good-tier action, and finns won't let shit a shitty rifle leave their factories.
>tfw I missed a lefty t3 sporter years ago, and never saw one again at my LGS ;_;
Pic related. The Bell and Carlson stocks are better than the cheap, injection molded plastic stocks you see these days, and the stainless steel won't rust as easily as blued steel. 308 or 7mm-08 are most practical calibers for hunting outside of Africa. If you can't kill it with either or those, you probably shouldn't be shooting it. Also, 308 and 7mm-08 are short action cartridges, making the gun lighter and shorter than 30-06 and the magnums.

>tfw I'm saving up for a .30-06 laminate/stainless T3x

>good tier
I think you typed one too many O's. Just got done with my Tikka at the range today. Put a Bell and Carlson stock on it and re-zeroed. Bullet holes touching at 50 Meters.
