A thousand times THIS my dude. I'm a pretty big BF fanboy, been playing since 1942 came out, and the only I haven't played is Bad Company 1. Yes, this includes those godawful F2P ones.

Fucking BF fans these days are so far up their own asses, they'll just spout 'GO BACK TO COD LOL' for any fucking reason, and they'll constantly shit on CoD despite it being a pretty fun game (Although the last time it saw any real improvements was Advanced Warfare, and Activision is especially jewey regarding DLC.) with a pretty different feel and a larger focus on small unit arcade gameplay.

What many BF fans fail to understand (with great irony given BF1s weapons and vehicles and shit) is that Battlefield has never been 'muh realism!', its always been "BIG FUN STUPID BATTLEFIELD". Hell, the original box to BF1942 even mentions suicide jeeps as a viable tactic. The most serious that game has ever been is probably BF2, but even that wasn't exactly realistic.

I think you missed the point.
What I tried to tell you is an explanation of why some people care about realism in shooters. That's why those people don't play Call of Duty.
Of course, that is not to say, that all people who care about realism do not play Call of Duty, but it is instead to say that people who play Call of Duty do not play it for its realism.
This is where irony comes into play: your average 10-year-old kiddie will say he loves to play CoD because it's "realistic" yet will blatantly deny the unrealisms present in the game.
But yes, the point of my post is to say this: some people do not like to play shallow video games!
That's when I ultimately grew out of video games. Not even ultra-realistic simulators like Victoria 2 make running a country difficult enough. Not even ultra-realistic shooters like Project Reality replicate real war. I'd rather stick to my imagination (+books) and dreams, which are much more realistic.

I've the exact same story. I quit after 17 years of gaming. Video games are just an inherently inferior entertainment medium, like comic books. Interactive gameplay is an addictive cheap thrill. If it's good, it gives immersion and escape, but the effects don't last, and due to the generally inferior quality of art, writing, characters, science fiction and general creativity as compared to other mediums, an average game can't give as much as an average novel or a film. Videogames are the fast food of art. There are rare exceptions, and they should be viewed through walkthroughs.
