Daily reminder that Great Shitstain scrapped all these beauties.

Literally the best weapon they developed after the Lee-Enfield and they only used it once.

Fucking buggers.

No, they didn't at all, you fucking prat.

Older than the B-52, and carrying 21,000 lbs of bombs compared with 70,000. Tornados and eurofighters both carry 19,000.

Why, exactly, would it have been kept around? Half the reason the B-52 still exists is because they built so many of them they still have literally thousands of brand new engines to slap into them. The vulcan doesn't have that.

That's not true, there was the English Electric Boogaloo too.

the vulcan has to be one of the most disgusting planes ever conceived, just like the rest of the V bombers

Just like 90% of British aircraft.

>>31898868
Agreed. Except for Victor. Victor was absolutely beautiful.
>>
>>31898954
The Victor was a big beautiful boy. Also I know I shouldn't cause it had tons of engineering problems but I really like the Tornado.
>>
>>31898954
Can confirm, Victor is like a giant winged insect of death.. Shame they got made into tankers.
Though I like the Vulcan too, it can do rolls n sheeeeiiiit.

Reminder that if the RAF backed production of the Valiant B2, they'd have a plane that could fly brilliantly at low-level altitude, unlike all other variants of the V Bombers.

You don't have to agree with a shitposter. He doesn't even know about the aircraft he commented on. All he has to do is take a negative stance, and use divisive language. You'll note that there are no details specific about the subject.

Im honestly really fucking glad us amerifats didn't retire this old son of o' bitch.

:( I only saw her last year
>>
>>31899818
sadly she'd reached her airframe service hours about 3 years ago, since then she's been going over her safety limit - XJ558 is now the airframe with the highest total flying hours of any vulcan, and the engines were pretty damn close too. there was no way to keep her in the sky.

The saddest part is that maintenance was needing people who were being called up out of retirement to help, because the systems in the Vulcan were so obsolete modern-trained engineers had no clue about servicing them.
>>
>Great Shitstain scrapped all these beauties.
>all

134 were built:

XH558, XJ823, XJ824, XL318, XL319, XL360, XL361, XL426, XM573, XM575, XM594, XM597, XM598, XM603, XM605, XM606, XM607, XM612 and XM655 all survive.

that's almost 15% of the airframes survive - as many as were destroyed by accidents.

The B-52 was used multiple times in Nam and we weren't nuking the gooks.

They really needed to ground her, much as I hate it.

When I saw her at Ayr, she flew around the airport for an hour after her slot ended. Turns out the wheels didn't come out fully because the airframe was so knackered. They couldn't tell what was wrong, so requested an intercept plane to come take a look.

They got a fucking Spitfire.

A. Fucking. Spitfire. On a legitimate intercept mission. In 2 0 1 6.

Identified a problem, fixed it, and then made a "gentle landing" by fucking wheelying the Vulcan all the way down the runway at a 30 degree angle to avoid stress on the front landing gear, especially so as the pilot couldn't see shit and was guided in by audio cues from the intercepting Spitfire and the control on the ground. It was orgasmically good flying.

I can die fucking happy having witnessed that day. Even on her last flights, when things started going wrong, she kept being so fucking good.

Footage here, btw.

Didn't the UK just spend millions of dollars restoring a Vulcan to flightworthy?

Also I distinctly remember there being one at the RAF museum.

The Vulcan has no strategic purpose. Modern aeroplanes can carry almost as much payload and as UK nukes are carried by submarines its original mission as part of the deterrent just does not exist. It is sadly just plain obsolete.
>>
>>31902032
Agreed. The use of the Vulcans in the Falklands War was pretty awesome though (8 planes and a bunch of tankers flying from the UK/Ascension, just to allow one plane to arrive)

Had the Valiant B2 entered production, or the B3, the Valiant would have had been a better choice. That or a Victor.

There's literally no one we need to bomb with a vulcan that couldn't be done cheaper or more easily with another aircraft.
