Guns aren't magic, people made them before Calculus existed. Anyone who qualifies to go to mars could do the math (at the very least) to design one.

If anything a colony might not have the resources to manufacture firearms (or more importantly, ammunition).

But to imagine they lost the knowledge is hilarious. I could probably spend $50 at home depot and build a zipgun. Guns are simple.

it's ammunition that's hard.
If there's no Sulfur (for example), and no heavy industry bp/smokeless would be very hard to manufacture, and shipping ammo from Earth would be prohibitively expensive.

But I'm pretty sure Mars' gravity is only about 60% of Earth's, and with no (or little atmosphere) you could probably throw a rock hard enough to either kill a person or crack their suit.

Low gravity doesn't magically make you stronger.

Weapons on Mars will be killer macrobot swarms of miniature self-guided self-powered projectiles and electronic warfare on a scale we can just barely imagine.

The damage done by whatever you throw still would only be a function of your own strength. In low gravity environments, you could throw farther. Not faster or harder, but farther. Only because the object you threw would fall to the ground slower, and for no other reason.

nigger are you dumb?

a moving objects kinetic energy is solely dependent on its mass and its speed. that's it.
lower gravity means it doesnt fall to the ground as fast. it doesnt magically change the mass of the object, and it doesnt make you capable of throwing things at higher speeds than on earth either.

>>
>>31893999
>objects thrown in an arc lad slower than the left the hand

come on nigger, you know better than that.

If I can impart the same energy into an object with lower weight, I can throw it harder.

If I throw it in an arc its speed will peak at the peak, and it will accelerate back toward the surface, into the skull of whatever martian I'm trying to kill
>>
>>31893999
You goon wasted nice trips.

Take a brick for example.

The brick has a set amount of mass, no matter where it is- we agree on that.

On earth, a brick weighs (say for example purposes) 5 pounds.

On mars (again, example, not actual numbers) let's say the brick weighs 2.5 pounds.

What can you throw faster/harder/further? Something that weighs 2.5 pounds or 5 pounds?

The energy imparted on whatever the brick hits remains the same if it's traveling the same speed.

BUT, If you throw the brick faster/harder on Mars because it's light as fuck, then it's going to be able to impart more energy because it's travelling faster. It's mass doesn't change- only the speed and the weight do.

(Clue- weight is different than mass)

>>
>>31894140
>if I'm in outer space where everything has no weight I can throw the brick at undefined speed right since it weighs nothing

kinetic energy = (mv^2)/2
where m is MASS not WEIGHT, if it were weight, objects moving in space would have 0 kinetic energy, which is obviously not true

if m is the same as earth, and kinetic energy is the same as on earth, velocity will also be the same

obviously, gravity is a lot weaker, so it will accelerate downward at a slower rate than on earth, but this will only affect the distance you can throw the brick
(also I'm pretty sure you know that any kinetic energy lost to increasing gravitational potential energy will be gained when the object comes back down)
(from a kinematics point of view which will probably make more sense to you, any upward velocity lost while going up will be gained back as downward velocity on the way down)

And don't start going off on how the kinetic energy will be different, the brick's final kinetic energy (after you finish applying force), assuming the initial velocity is 0 before you start pushing on it,
will be equal to the work you do on it, which you can agree is the same on earth as on mars as in outer space.

Whenever we figure out how to manufacture exotic matter.

>>31893048
Air-guns would probably see increased effectiveness, thin gravity = less drag so higher velocities at farther ranges, and low gravity = flatter shooting at longer ranges.

Only have to put an itty bitty hole in one of those suits to take them out of the fight.

The force pulling you towards Mars does not increase the further you go down. It is at its highest on the surface. The further you get down, the closer you get to equilibrium, I.e. mars mass trying to pull you apart - virtual zero gravity.

Seriously.

Apart from that, if Musk does not want guns on mars, /k/ shall conquer venus (kek, you autistic virgins). 1.1bar atmosphere, 1.1g surface gravity. Closer to earth it does not get. And while faggots will tell you there is no water left, there is enough in the solar system. All you need to do is bind the carbon in the atmosphere in to some sort of carbon fibers, or nanotubes, to cool the planet down. From there on, you can just mimic earth's evolution. Green party faggots will get angry because you're fucking with a potential ecosystem, but fuck them. One /k/ continent coming up within the next 500 years max.
