Bad News: AAG won't be ready until February. They landed a Super Hornet on it a few weeks ago, so at least we know it works, but it won't be ready for actual operations until then. So we're probably looking at a March induction at the earliest.

More Bad News: The radar and the weapon elevators still need more testing. Those could probably be done during the initial shakedown cruise though.

Good news: EMALS is ready to go (that could have been really fucking bad if it didn't work) and the MTGs are almost fixed. Everything else on the ship is done.
>>
Isn't this to be somewhat expected with a brand new ship class and a whole bag of new/improved technologies?
>>
>>31883162
Yes, but why care about such things when one can scream "memeboat" and "lol burgers btfo" instead?

>>31883146
Redpill me on what the AAG and MTG was again?
>>
>>31883204
AAG is the new arresting system. The old hydraulic system can't catch aircraft as light as UAVs. AAG will be able to catch them, and will also have a lighter touch with other aircraft, which will help with airframe lifetime.

The MTGs are the turbine generators. They had shit voltage regulators which weren't letting them spool up to full power and caused some damage to the turbines during the summer.
>>
>>31883146
Seems pretty minor for a first in class. 1 real problem that will be fixed, one minor "problem" that is just basically more testing.
>>
>>31883279
Well, it's minor now. EMALS was sort of nail-biting for everybody watching for awhile there.
>>
>>31883146

People tend to forget when they shit on QE for not having cats, that at the time EMALS wasn't in a very good state, but I'm glad that it worked out in the end.
>>
>>31883308
It was solved a while ago. Threw a bunch of sleds and trucks off the deck. All green.
>>
>>31883162
well no, its not "to be expected" that an essential key component is years behind schedule
>>
Some more info on those AAG tests.

https://news.usni.org/2016/11/02/navsea-ford-carrier-advanced-arresting-gear-testing-shows-promise

>Last month, Naval Air Systems Command successfully landed an F/A-18E Super Hornet at its land-based test facility in Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, in Lakehurst, N.J. 12 times in a day with no problems in a little-publicized test and shipboard testing of the AAG system on Ford is doing well, said Vice Adm. Tom Moore.

So outlook looks good.

Noted for the next murria BTFO bait thread.

>nu-male: the ship
>>
>>31883162
Pretty much.
>>
>>31883146
Tell me again what the Ford brings to the table that our previous carriers don't? I'm not very up to date on our navy acquisitions.
>>
>>31887362

More automation
Upgraded electric plant
Next gen solid state radar
AAG
EMALS
>no steam outside the engine room basically

Less crew needed
Increased operational tempo
Reduced maintenance (supposedly)

plus she got a big old butt
>>
>>31887511
>Increased operational tempo
The deck isn't much bigger than Nimitz, but the arrangement is more efficient. 3 faster elevators leaves more room for the launch queue.

Also, much of the maintenance reduction is from increasing electrical systems and reducing valve counts in the reactor.
>>
>>31889523
EMALS also charges faster. It only has to charge for 45 seconds between launches. The current C13s have somewhere in the area of an 80 second charge time.
