I'm from SC. Had a chat with a guy from a northern state who was new to the area. He said "up nother, everyone is an asshole. In the south, people are a bit nicer because you don't know who is carrying (gun/ccp). Ironically, I've never felt safer" I hope it doesn't tighten up in SC, but you never know.

Central NJ here. The process can be absolute garbage or slightly less garbage depending on your Police Dept. When I turned 18 (2004) I immediately applied for my Firearms I.D. card. Took fucking 5 months and the excuse was "Oh your references never responded" Utter bullshit because NONE of them received a call or letter. After the 5 month mark I reached out to an officer I knew in the Dept. and asked him if I should get a lawyer since NJ law states it CAN NOT take this long. He said "let me talk to some people" two days later I got my permit.

Once I turned 21 I went and applied for my handgun permits. Same department but I was in the police academy at the time....literally 3 days after I applied I got all the permits in the mail...WTF?? Should be noted that I do not believe they knew I was in the academy at the time. Inconsistencies all around.

Last time I bought guns was 2 years ago and had to apply for one handgun permit, I now live in a different area (I am no longer a cop) and applied at my new PD. Got the permit in less then a week. A friend who came with me applied for his HG permit too, took 3 months and called HIS FUCKING BOSS to see if he believed the guy should own a gun....seriously. Fuck NJ so hard, can't wait to relocate to NC in a few months.

Fuck I thought I was alone in this shithole. turned 18 recently and in the process of filling out the forms. 65$ for a fuckin fingerprinting fee?! Not to mention the fact that I need to be fingerprinted at all just to exercise my 2nd amendment right. Also have to fill out a form which discloses all of my medical records and then pay another fee when I go to submit it all and it can STILL be denied. Fuck this state

What city? I live in NJ and it was pretty fast and easy. It takes a month for the background checks and everything and assuming your references mail the paperwork in there shouldn't be any problems. If there is than you have a shit PD and I feel bad for you. Call them every week. My friend in Bergenfield had to do that. But he got his.

Still wont get it. I know of a handful of people in NJ with CCL. All are retired Cops and one is a VERY prominent, douchebag, business owner in my old town. I know for a fact there is no way he could prove justifiable need for CCL so once again...NJ is about who you pay not the actual law.
Also worthy retardation of note...the fucking laws here change CONSTANTLY. Back when I got my first 3 handgun permits (wasn't the 1 only law at the time) the state was talking about banning 50. cal. So being young and stupid I bought a Desert Eagle .50 which set me back quite a bit. They then turned around and dropped the ban...-_- Also cucked 10 round AR mags (which are shit and caused jamming issues in my Bushmaster.) Lets see...also had a friend of the family got in a traffic accident returning from the range. Even though the guns where locked and separate from the LOCKED up ammo(again NJ), the Police still confiscated the guns because it was an "investigation" because the other driver hit him and took off.
Seriously, if you guys want to read some blood boiling bullshit Im sure you can find all kinds by looking up the violation of rights us legal gun owners in NJ have to deal with. Lol gun restrictions get worse every year but yet we see almost no noticeable drop in gun crime from...the melanin enriched areas (largely ALL illegal guns) of the state. One last great story for you. My brother used to be good friends with a guy here in NJ. The guy went on to be a state trooper and eventually got a bunch of charges levied against him for sexual assault and misconduct while on duty. While the claims were being investigated he ran home to Mom and Dad since his wife kicked him out.
Heres were it gets interesting. His father was a no nonsense Vietnam Vet, always had the 1000 yrd stare going on. He was also a gun/military gear collector on a level that would even make the most dedicated on here seem like nogunz. The father finds out that the son can't stay there because IA doesn't want him to have access to guns because he threatened the wife. Soooo dad kicks him out.
Still not good enough for NJ. They informed the father they would be taking the guns till the investigation was over since the son could return and gain access. The dad absolutely loses his shit and barricades the house, tells the cops to fuck off and prepare for "The worst fucking fight of their lives if they think they are taking my weapons due to my sons fuck up". SWAT deployed, all types of fun ensues, but due to his service record and whatever other factors the cops actually backed off.
That man is a fucking legend to me :'( tear up just thinking about him.
