100-70 year old mags aren't reliable - so you need at least one new mag

rather bulky as fuck
only 8+1 rounds of 7,65/9mm for that huge size
safety levers get pretty loose on many models (hell mine activates itself after 4 shots)
sights are rather meh in poor light conditions
many P08s don't like any ammo besides round nose

Any firearm used in any kind of shooting is taken by the police (if they are able to locate it). If used in a defensive shooting, you should get your firearm back. When depends on a few things: the state, how clearly it was a defensive shooting, competency of the department/every officer that handles the gun and dumb luck. And then you have to play the department's game on when you can retrieve your gun.
Even when you get it back, it will most likely be damaged in someway. Usually this is just scratches in the finish (something that can kill the value of a luger) but there are stories of broken or missing parts in returned guns.

This is always a stupid argument. Yes, there's always a risk of getting your gun lock up for a few months, but I've heard just as many stories of people getting their weapon back in a timely manner after the investigation closed. If you have the money, it really doesn't matter what you carry.

I personally wouldn't carry one for the same reason you wouldn't, but it doesn't really make it that OP shouldn't if he was capable of effectively using a PO8

I mean, I carry a AC43 P38. Fuck, why not? There are more practical carry guns, for sure, but if you trust your life to a Luger I'm not gonna stop you.

OP, there are plenty of better choices out there to carry than a Luger. Glock 19, 26, 43, etc.

Lugers are good guns, I love them, I own 4 of them. But their time has passed, and there are much better options on the market now. They no longer make Lugers, they are part of history. Buy one for the history, take it to the range and shoot it some, but don't use it as a daily carry for it to get beat up and even more worn out.

If you carry a Luger you might as well get a trench coat, katana, and a fedora, because you'll be a giant faggot.

It seems like every week now this question gets asked.

I have seen x25 defensive ammo but after owning a tokerav, I would hesitate to trust one in a defensive situation.

The P38's a bit bulky, but it's basically a single-stack Beretta 92, for all intents and purposes. IMO, hammer-fired DA/SA is the ideal for a carry gun anyway, so even taking into account modern offerings it's hard to find something that would serve me better. Possibly a 92FS Compact Type M, but those are unicorns, and even then they're still kinda bulky.
