Anyone else have range anxiety because of their weapons? I own my great grandfather's old 1911 army pistol and his father's Krag Jorgensen rifle, but I'm sort of intimidated to go practice with them at the range because of all the people using modern weaponry. I see people with their tricked out tactically advanced ARs and I can't help but think that they're silently judging me or laughing at me for bringing out these century-old outdated guns to the range.

Should I trade them in for a modernized AR?

Norwegian here. I own both modern and classic firearms (M1 Garand). Why would you give a fuck about what people think? Just go to the range and enjoy shooting. You're there for YOU. Not anyone else.

Also, the Krag Jorgensen is an excellent rifle! Never trade it away or sell it.
>>
1911's are fantastic pistols, prices nowadays can go up in the thousands for nice ones, maybe some of them are jealous of your guns. Just keep your guns Anon. In my opinion, the old guns are just as good as the new ones or even better.
>>
>>31871312
My great-grandpa gave me a Carcano and a 1917 stamped Mauser 98. I think he'd string me up from the nearest tree if I even considered getting a tacticool gun with money from those.
>>
>>31871334
Those are probably double stacked 9mm's they're firing, .45 is a bigger round than that so the capacity will suffer.

Let me guess, your great great and great granddad's guns are the only ones you own and you don't regularly go shooting yourself?

>>31871337
What this anon said, except the part about being Norwegian, that a load of donkey dookie.
>>
>>31871337
are there any sort of attachments or modifications I could use on it to fit in better at the range? anything by Magpul or Promag or similar brands?
>>
I outshoot faggots with mall-ninja'd AR's all the fucking time with my old milsurps. Not saying an AR isn't useful, but old milsurps and whatnot are no less valid. Hell, they honestly demand a bit of respect from anyone whose opinion is worth anything. The only people that laugh at an old warhorse are faggots that don't know better.

If you catch any sideways glances, OP, it's jealousy, not scorn. Your guns have history and value, much more than some run-of-the-mill AR.
>Should I trade my sweet-ass inherited guns for some stupid AR?
No.
>>
>>31871312
GOD DAMN ANON!! Man the fuck up, grab yer funs and head to the range. And if anyone gives you the look, tell him that your guns have killed assholes when Mr tacticool AR wasnt more than a horny idea in his papa's mind.

And dont you dare to sell or trade them. you never give away heirlooms. never!!!
>>
>>31871312
I've got several original 1885 highwalls, as well as a modern reproduction, and every time I take them to the range (especially when I'm shooting black powder) I end up with a crowd of gawkers around my bench wanting to shoot them.
>BOOM......................WHANG
every time I shoot the 300m gong with the .38-55 and 417gr soupcans at a whopping 1650fps
>>
>>31871312
I go to the range with percussion guns all the time. Not to sound like a special snowflake or anything, but people at the range tend to find older guns to be really neat. I'm sure your guns would be no exception to that trend.
>>
>>31871404
This isn't your average every day bait, it's... advanced bait.

It is rare, but Remington and Winchester still do limited runs of it.

Be proud.
The more and more time goes on the more and more your weapons will gain value. Both monetary and sentimental.

You can easily buy an AR nowadays (as in it's common, don't you fucking dare get politics involved in this) but you can't easily buy a working piece of history like a Krag or a vintage 1911.

Don't trade them. Keep them.
If you want to make some money on them, loan them out and charge a good bit of money for them. People will go for it and you'll profit off of it.

As for an AR, if you want one that badly then save up a bit and buy one later on. There are some pretty cheap ones around (e.g. https://www.deguns.net/m-and-p-sport-for-sale-m-p-sport-best-price-10202-p/10202.htm)

Have fun at the range, don't feel ashamed of your guns.

If you feel insecure about it, you could modernize your guns. Replace the ugly wood stock with a nice folding ABS stock. Add a foregrip and holo sight and you're halfway there!

I am a mall ninja with nothing but pistol gripped black rifles and red dots and all that trash.

I enjoy seeing people shooting black powder and other old weapons at the range, the history behind them is really cool and the fact that hundred year old weapons are still functional tools and useful for the intended purpose is one of the things that got me interested in firearms in the first place.

>Should I trade them in for a modernized AR?

I know this post is bait but:
Hell no. If you want an ar save a few hundred and get an ar, but don't get rid of antiques.
>>
>>31871312
Anon, firearms owners are generally giant nostalgiafags. If you show up to shoot with firearms that have been passed down through the family line for generations they'll generally jizz their pants.

People always get pissed at me because my muzzleloader smokes out the whole range and I've practiced enough that I can get off three shots a minute when I try so I can singlehandedly render the 3 bays downwind of me useless.

I took my blackpowder pistols to an indoor range and got kicked out within five minutes.

Old guns are way more fun than tacticool shit. Oh look, another uber-modern tacticool hunk of plastic that functions exactly like all the others. Rock mag in, run the gun, bang bang bang thirty times. How interesting. Old guns are awesome because they're all unique. Even if you own two Henry-Martinis in fireable condition (fat chance) those guns are over 100 years old. The history gives them character. They will both have their own particular flaws and quirks that make them the same - but different. As opposed to anon's collection of 15 AR platform firearms that are literally indistinguishable except by price.
>>
I feel like shit OP so you better love that i'm bothering to type this.
Older Weapons are the shit, you need to rock that shit.
Yours is worth 20x more than some dime a dozen AR, at least in sentimental value
>>
>>31873009
Do you use authentic black powder or do you use pyrodex?
>>
>>31872583
I thought old military rifles trigger fudds.
>>
>caring what strangers think about you

>>31873101
Authentic BP because I have a flintlock that won't take pyrodex in the pan (works about 1 in 5 times with pyrodex, as opposed to about 4 in 5 with BP) and I cbf having two different types of powder. Also BP is smokier, which is half the fun.
>>
>>31871312
No? I show up with 60+ year old rifles all the time and full grown adults with nothing but a glock and dolled up AR to their name ooohhh and ahhh all over that shit.
>You can buy those?!
Yeah, they sell them, behind all the ARs, all you have to do is look.
>Sighting in neighbors M1A
>MOD Squad shows up in plates and trucks that are lifted to all hell
>ARs that cost more than my tuition
>they all take photos and look mean posing
>I'm just tacking away with iron sights
>"Huh, nice old rifle man" -in horrible sarcasm
>after an hour of them shooting with their acogs and scopes we go to get the targets
>at 100yds it looks like they let an epileptic child shoot for them while all my shots were inside a dollar bill
>"Huh, guess it was windy on this side of the range"
You have nothing to be afraid of unless you let an absolute idiot fingerfuck your rifle.
>>
>>31871312
are you compensating
that is the only explanation
this isn't the high school locker room, nobody cares
>>
>>31873162
Do you use Goex? I'd like to use Goex, but there's nowhere to buy it where I live. You can only find the substitutes. The 30-dollar hazard shipping on all the powders stuff is pretty brutal, so I feel like I'm going to have to resort to pyrodex at some point. I hate the smell of pyrodex so much.

dont sweat it OP those two firearms are more valuable than a $15,000 AR. they were in your family you can say that. the AR owners say how"big" there dick is and how much money thery wasted on a gun that has hardly anything stock left in them.

I have what I guess you could call slight range anxiety when it comes to shooting pistols. My hands shake like I shotgunned three mega-gulp Red Bulls before heading out to a day of fun.

I've found a few work-arounds for it.
>do not eat before going out shooting, typically go early in the morning for my alone time and cooler weather
>shoot rifles first, slows my brain down and relaxes me
Your body slows down and your hands shake less when you're hungry, and when I sit at the bench with my Savage M12 BVSS and get in the zone I start to calm down and focus.
>pic related, 110 yard test loads
>.223 Rem, LC brass trimmed and heavily tinkered with
>Sierra 69gr TMK, 22.5gr H322, Fed #205 primer
>2.400" COAL

I guess I could stop being a stubborn ass and move my pistol target ten yards closer to me. Hurts me right in the hubris to even consider it.

On your points, OP, that's a negative. Do not give in to the temptations in your mind. Just stop giving a fuck about them. Most shooters I know just want to be left the fuck alone, myself being a big advocate of that. Unless they're a total douche nugget, you have nothing to worry about.
