So just had a 3rd shooting at work 2 hours ago. I've been looking at getting a 1911 but am for sure getting one this week.
There is a gun show this weekend and was wondering if any one could tell me what to look for when buying one. I also wouldn't care to buy a brand new one from colt or Springfield. Please help.

Well, if you hate Colt and Springfield for whatever reason, another brand in that price range is Remington.
I've had and carried a Remington R1 Enhanced for about 3 years, and I have never had a single issue with it whatsoever.
Though that specific model was set up as more of a target gun, so I replaced the target sights with night sights.
They make specifically built carry guns though.
Pretty much any 1911 around the $700 mark will be a good buy.
Except Kimber. Avoid them at all costs.
>>31859832
I don't hate colt or Springfield I was trying to say I'm OK with buying brand new direct if I needed too. I really want springfield model.
>>31859832
What's wrong with Kimber?
>>31859808
>So just had a 3rd shooting at work 2 hours ago.
Somehow this is not on the news why?
>>31859835
Well in that case, go with a Springfield.
They're solid guns.
>>31859839
Poor quality / quality control.
They used to be good a long time ago, but now they're just coasting on their name.
>>31859843
Welcome to Alaska?
>>31859849
good to know. I'm nogunz and have been trying to get an idea of what the better 1911 models were.
where the fuck do you live and what are you doing that this is a common occupational hazard
>>31859832
This. I carry my R1 Enhanced daily, and put at least 200 rounds thru it a month. Solid gun.

Night security downtown anchorage (mos eisley) Alaska.
Guys, can I buy an expensive (~$1300) 1911 and plan on shooting it forever? I mean, would I be better off saving up for a dan wesson?
>>31860012
I love my Springfield GI model.
>>31860028
More expensive does not mean more reliable. They are all made out of metal, if you take care of it (and maybe occasionally replace a few small parts) they should last you a very long time. The real pricey 1911's are more of a gimmick for guys with deep wallets.

>lives in Alaska
>browses /k/
>doesn't already carry a gun let alone own one already
>takes a 3rd shooting at his workplace that he is paid to be in to finally get a hint on getting a handgun
Jesus christ nigga.
>>31860028
>wants a 1911
>wants reliability and thinks it's in relationship to cost
>wants a gun that literally has forums dedicated to discussing how to get it to run reliably
Get a modern fullsize or compact 9mm like a Glock 19, P320 or M&P9. Also take a look at TDA guns such as the PX4, P07 and P30. Take into account how you can manipulate and effectively manipulate the weapon with winter gloves on.
I'm not shitting on the 1911 but there's better options to be had. You don't spend $1,300 on a handgun unless your skills as a shooter is honed and you want a gun that is equally the part. Spend around $450 to $500 for a gun you carefully research and spend the rest on carry gear and ammo.
I have a few handguns and was looking at getting a 1911 or metal frame handgun. I might just go with the Springfield Loaded.. the cheap bastard in me is leaning towards the Rock Island Armory option...
>>31860140
I have a tokarev but don't like carrying it.
>>31859808
1911s are fun at the range, but in a self defense situation trust me you want more than 7 or 8 rounds.
Look into the Browning HI power. I got one and It feels pretty much just like shooting a 1911, except you get up to 15 rounds.
also look into getting an old steel framed Smith and Wesson (5906 and related guns), they are cheap as fuck and honestly I'm thinking of getting one as a backup.
>>31859843
I would assume no minorties were killed
>>31860247
Aren't they kinda rare? I really want a 45 but I'll look into it.
>>31860259
Well that's not necessarily true. Nig nogs are killed all the time. The majority of the killings never go beyond local news.
>>31860263
There are still quite a few Surplus Hi powers around. Now is the best time to get them too. Once they run out they will go up in price, but they only have a cult following, so they aren't flying off the shelves either. I got mine from Mach 1 Arsenal. It's fucking great.
>>31860199
You have Salient on there but not Wilson Combat? What the fuck?
You need a new job more than you need a new gun.
Splurge and get pic related.
>>31860247
>in a self defense situation trust me you want more than 7 or 8 rounds.
One shot one kill.
>>31859808
OP I recommend an FNP/FNX .45 over a 1911 as a 1st gun. 1911s are great collecters' peices and fun to shoot but there are simpler, less expensive, more modern and reliable alternatives these days.
>>31859808
Good choice, anon. Colt and Springfield are both fine, but the Colt is worth the extra money. Here are some considerations you may not have thought of:
>Arched vs flat mainspring housing
It's not a fitted part, so it's easy to swap. See where the gun naturally points when you aim it; arched will raise the muzzle and flat will lower it.
>GI Grip safety vs beavertail
Hold a GI gun and cycle the slide to see if you get pinched. I have fat hands and it's never bothered me, but apparently some people need a beavertail.
>Sights
Make sure you can live with the sights, especially if they are GI. Colt's are fine, but I've had others that were unusable.
>Trigger
Long vs. short, depends on your hand size.
>>31860238
carrying a 1911 is gonna be pretty comparable to carrying a tok comfort wise.

I vote springfield
911 is a showgun.
Get a revolver, as a matter of fact ask around.
Get a revolver.
Im a Huge trump supporter and I am being called a racist, thats not right.
Now lets get down to the itty gritty,
You want a reliable gun, You want it for self defense and god forbid You have to pull the trigger.
Why SW? because the barrol is extra thick, You can check my words,
What is SW safety? its a bult in feature that is the result of firearm laws eating away at our freedom,
How do I remove it?

This is the first video that came up on my search engine search.
Trump 2016
Lets revoke gun law
If you have to get a 1911 for defensive use (shiggydiggydoo), they're all pretty much the same unless they're forged or investment cast. Which one is better? It's hard to tell because neither one is worse than the other, but forged is "better". Get what I mean? For the lower end of the price range, the best bet is to get a Citadel/RIA. You don't see much quality improvement until you step up to SIG, which IMO are better than Colt. How much? Not by much. Until you step into the match guns on top of this guy's list
>>31860199
The name is a big part of how much you spend and not a whole lot about what you get. Keep in mind everyone and their brother's been making these for 100+ years, so they probly know how.
What I would suggest is one of these.
>>31860175
this.
get a modern gun.

>>31859808
saw this image in another thread, only thing I'd say is avoid Kimber, add Wilson Combat to the God-Tier list, and maybe add the Springer Mil-Spec to the entry level list.
>>31859808
You should get a new job. Thats not worth putting up with at all.
