Am I being a bit too paranoid that my dad just wantonly leaves his gun laying on the counter, and that I inadvertently walk or stand in front of it?
It's a Bodyguard .380 (so it won't even have the bonus of killing me if it goes off), in a soft pocket holster, and the safety is always engaged, but it's still loaded, and it still makes me a little nervous since the whole situation totally goes against safety rules. I mean, I don't point loaded guns at myself and store mine so they point in such a way that they wouldn't hit anyone even if they fired.
I've asked him to not do it, but I don't want to come off as some hard-ass by harping on it.

Loaded gun on the counter and you're scared? if nothing touches it, it wont go off. Now, shut up you fucking pussy.
He's hinting that it's time you move out

Guns don't go off by themselves. Unless you're in a house fire or some shit, its not going to go off. You're afraid of an inanimate object suddenly becoming animated and trying to kill you.
